学习历史的主要好处是去打破一种假象:不同时代的人之间是完全不同的。


大负小正,部分同意
I concede that the study of history can indicate that in different times there may be some same charicteristics among people.
However, I should claim that the study of history can also help us distingush different charicteristics of different times.
Further, other fuctions of history should not be overlooked.

The chief benefit of the study of history is to break down the illusion that people in one period of time are significantly different from people who lived at any other time in history.

Is the chief benefit of history study is to break down the illusion that people in one period of time are significantly different from those who lived of any other time as the speaker claims? I concede that the history study can help us recognize some characteristics in common of different history stages. However I should assert that the speaker unfairly considers such function as the chief one, while neglects other functions of history including the opposite one, distinguishing people in different times.

To begin with, I agree with the speaker insofar that studying history can break down some bias and illusions, coming to recognize that there are some features in common though people are in different times. In every period of time, people may share some certain characteristics most of which are innate. And even evolving so many years, such features are still existing. Think about the crimes. Through history study, we will find the innate evil thoughts exist in each period time of human history. From Bibles we know there was seven sins, and from ancient record we know people in the past times also commit crimes like murder, ravage and so on. Even the most peaceful age, do the crimes exist. And other features can be also picked up at ease, like philosophy of love. People in each time would mostly like to share love with friends, relatives, and even unacquainted ones. Thus the noteworthy benefit of  history study is obvious. If we do not refer to historical remainders and records, studying historians' works, how can we in final understand such features? Therefore, history study will actually provide us such view of point in learning different past times, as is mentioned in the statement.

However, history could not only teach us people are to some extent the same, but also tell us in many circumstances, different times have different main characteristics. Looking through any history book, reading from pages of diverse ancient times, what can impress a person significantly might not be the common features, but the outstanding ones in each period. Most people could differentiate times of bloom and times of decadency, like in the European history. It is unbelievable that people will think people in Medieval is as same as those in Resonances either from a history text or the history common sense, the latter of which was mainly acquired through telling history stories. Thus, study history could also provide strong views of characteristic distinctions in each period. In sum, people may prefer to notice the eminent features when depicting a period of time, which history gives people much information.

Further, the speaker unnecessarily limits the chief function to a narrow range, which should be doubted. The benefits to study history are not only to compare between different times, different people, but also to acquire knowledge from ancient eminent individuals, learn experience from past accidents, get more information about our precedents, and even predict the trend of our society. In another word, the chief function cannot be generalized in one aspect. Studying more of history, we will find more to learn from it.

In conclusion, it is true that history will break down the illusion that people in different times have totally distinguished features. But it should also be mentioned that history could even prove the dissimilar features' existence, which is more appealing. In addition, there are many other chief benefits of study history which cannot be neglected. Without taking them all into consideration, the meaning of history study will be undermined.

(这个复杂的开头……感觉好像有语法错误,即使没有也容易看糊涂了,可以用what is the benefit of ... the author tell us that... but I...能好些吧) I concede that the history study can help us recognize some characteristics in common of  (这个短语没看懂不过应该能收吧?) different history stages. However I should assert that the speaker unfairly considers such function as the chief one, while neglects other functions of history including the opposite one (离得那么近就有一个one感觉重复了,嗯…考虑用以下facet 什么别的词替代以下?), distinguishing people in different times.

However I should assert that the speaker unfairly considers such function as the chief one, while neglects other functions of history including the opposite one, distinguishing people in different times.

To begin with, I agree with the speaker insofar(这个词应该怎么用?) that studying history can break down some bias and illusions, coming to recognize that there are some features in common though people are in different times. In every period of time, people may share some certain characteristics most of which are innate. And even though evolving for so many years, such features are still existing(加两个字好像通顺些对吧). Think about the crimes. Through history study, we will find the innate evil thoughts exist in each period time of human history. From Bibles we know there was(were) seven sins, and from ancient record we know people in the past times(in times past----查到这个词组可以表示:很久以前) also commit crimes like murder, ravage and so on. Even during the most peaceful age, do the crimes exist. And other features can be also picked up at ease, like philosophy of love. (最好两句间来点连接?)People in each time would mostly like to share love with friends, relatives, and even unacquainted ones. Thus the noteworthy benefit of  history study is obvious. If we do not refer to historical remainders and records, studying historians' works, how can we in final understand such features? In another word(似乎是 in other words), the chief function cannot be generalized in one aspect(不知道怎么改能通顺一些?). Studying more of history, we will find more to learn from it.(可以考虑用the more ___the more___)

In conclusion, it is true that history will break down the illusion that people in different times have totally distinguished features. But it should also be mentioned that history could even prove the dissimilar features' existence, which is more appealing. In addition, there are many other chief benefits of study history which cannot be neglected. Without taking them all into consideration, the meaning of history study will be undermined(是不是太严重拉?只能说incomplete吧?).

小熊,文字上你已做的很不错了,不过我有另一种思路,也是对你文章的一些异议,题目是在说benefit是什么,而你的正文前2段都在说不同时代的人一样与否的问题,似乎与benefit有些差距,假如你第2.3段加上点:人们发现不同时代人性的异同之后,加以分析,然后和当今的社会相比较,取其精华,弃其糟粕,这样才能benefit humun being.所以说重点不在人性的异同,而是研究历史完了如何利用得到的这些结论.
