The marine sanctuary on Tria Island was established to protect certain marine mammals. Its regulations ban dumping and offshore oil drilling within 20 miles of Tria, but fishing is not banned. Currently many fish populations in Tria's waters are declining, a situation blamed on pollution. In contrast, the marine sanctuary on Omni Island has regulations that ban dumping, offshore oil drilling, and fishing within 10 miles of Omni and Omni reports no significant decline in its fish populations. Clearly, the decline in fish populations in Tria's waters is the result of overfishing, not pollution. Therefore, the best way to restore Tria's fish populations and to protect all of Tria's marine wildlife is to abandon our regulations and adopt those of Omni."




In the argument above, the arguer advocates that the best way to restore Tria's fish populations and to protect all of Tria's marine wildlife is to abandon Tria's regulations and adopt those of Omni. To support the arguer's recommendation, the arguer makes a comparison between the condition of the Tria Island and Omni Island and come to a conclusion that Omni's regulation is better and more effective. Yet, with a careful examination, the arguer commits any fallacies in this argument which could undermine the conclusion the arguer maintains.

First of all, the main logic flaws with this argument is that, lacking adequate information about background and status quo of the two island, Tria island and Omni Island, the result of the comparison would be groundless. It is quite possible that the fishers in Omni Island is so few that any fishing activities would have little affect on the population of its fish In the marian sanctuary. Or, In Tria Island, such regulation was implemented randomly; On the country, the regulation on Omni Island is implemented strictly. If the arguer does not consider any differences and rule out any other factors affecting the fish populations, the conclusion that the Omni's regulation is better than the Tria's is open to doubt.

Secondly, there is any flaws with the Omni's regulation. the arguer cited that the Omni island's regulation ban dumping, offshore oil drilling, and fishing within 10 miles of Omni which is different from the within20 miles of Tria. In this regard, we can broadly argue that, even though the Tria island enact the similar regulation of Omni Island, the protection of the population of fish outside 10 miles is still in question, or even the population of fish decline more faster than before enacting the former regulation outside 10 miles.

Thirdly, even assuming the Omni's regulation would be effective in Tria Island, the arguer's gratuitous recommendation that such regulation would protect all of Tria's marine wildlife is still unconvincing. Scuh evidence in the argument is that the regulation In Omni's marine sanctuary is not to protect marine wildlife but marine mammals. In this regard, the arguer make a mistake of hasty generalization.

Last but not least, the arguer does not rule out any other way of any other similar regulation which would be more effective in protecting the Tria's marine wildlife. Meanwhile, we should also consider any drawbacks when Tria abandon the regulation of Omni. Maybe such regulation would damage the former marine ecosystem, which would be harmful for the marine wildlife.

In summary, the argument is not well reasoning and lacking credibility because the evidence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to what the arguer maintains. To make the argument more convincing, the arguer should have to provide evidence to demonstrate that the regulation of Omni is de facto better and effective than that of Tria and practical and available. Additionally, it would be essential for the arguer to think about any other alternative regulation and drawbacks of this argument before come to any conclusion.
