The speaker asserts that some research of nonmainstream areas, such as astrology, fortune-telling, psychic and paranormal pursuits and so on, play an important role in society nowadays. I fundamentally agree with the speaker' s opinion as it can actually satisfy people' needs in some aspects of our lives which can not be properly satisfied by mainstream science.

In the first place, we should recognize that such nonmainstream areas of inquiry may be the right mainstream ones in the past. In the old days, scientific reseach did not developed as fast as now, while our ancestors did not have too much scientific knowledge and theroies to explain the natural phenomenon which had observed by them. Nevertheless, they were so eager to know the truth, which was determined by human' character of curiosity, that they tried their best to get the most resonable answer for it. So they had to interpret it according to experience, which was selected in everyday lives and was told by their elders, and some "mainstream science" things which we now call it mainstream research. In the old days, for instance, there was no scientific technology for forecasting the weather in the future, people used the way of observing the stars and moon in the sky for predicting the weather, which was mainly according to their experience. This may have a little  fundation, whileas most part shares the astrology bases. Hence, some nonmainstream areas of inquiry was once the mainstream ones as a result of a low level of scientific research.

Moreover, although researches like astrology, fortune-telling are no longer determine the direction of scientific research, they still play a role in the present age, no matter positive or negetive.

On the one hand, these nonmainstream areas of inquiry effect the society in the positive aspect. In the era of repid developping of scientific technology, more and more natural phenomenon that appearred and can't be properly explained has conquared by the benifit of advanced scientific technology. For example, men-made satelites have been sent to the universe for the use of weather prediction, photos of planets taken, and electric communication, whileas there still some cases can not suitablly interpreted by it. And by thousands of years accumulation, a whold and orgized theory system has been found and is a good supplement of mainstream science.

On the other hand, nonmainstream theory has the negetive aspect. Many religions use these theories to fool masses for terror. As these theories have no scientific bases, but always heard authotity and believable, many people who know little science knowledge may easily be cheat by the person who have ulterior motives. The traditional religious belief makes people believe that live or death is all determined by the god, which lead the followers look down on their lives and at last be fooled to take part in terrorism.

To sum up, as the development of scientific technology, it is the destiny of those nonmainstream areas of inquiry that they will be disappeared in the world, instead of advanced science theory which can totally interpret cases that nonmainstream research can not. But in present days, when scientific research is not so advanced that can explain all things, nonmainstream research needs to exist and will last a long time to be a approperate supplement of mainstream inquiry and influences the development of society.
