The speaker asserts that formal education is a primary way for a culture to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears. While I concede that in some realms such as art formal education plays an important role, in other realms to spread the national values is not only through formal education but also accomplished in other ways, for example, media and internet.
Without doubts, formal education is a crucial way to spread the national values. Since a child was born, his or her parents would send the child to schools one after another in order to receive good education. In these schools, students get to know the national values from their books or teachers. For example, in a society admiring endurance the teacher will tell the students “ where is a will, there is a way.” “When there’s a will, there’s a way.” – in a society admiring creativity the students will learn more stories about well-known scientists who have totally change the way we live such as Edison. However, students may not understand all of these values for one time, so the best way to perpetuate the ideas is to repeat these ideas a myriad of times. At the same time, some values such as violence are told to the students to get away from. As a result, through formal education a culture well spreads its values and ideas.
Are the values of a nation identical to those of a culture?
Admittedly, formal education is a good way to spread values, but not the only way. It should be noted that the efforts of technologies are always positive. The advent of TV and Internet brought about an information revolution. Believe it or not, we cannot live without TV and Internet. TV and Internet play an even more crucial role in spreading values. Compared with books, TV and Internet are more directly observed to receive information. No matter what your job is or where you live, you can be accurately achieved by the internet. Especially in politics, patriotism is often reported by TV aiming to inspire all its people. But there is a disadvantage of the internet,
If here is the crucial part of ur rebutment, I think “but” is not a word strong enough for this.
because some people express ideas discredited by the nation or even opposed by the whole society. As we all know, internet is a place where you can express freely and receive a tremendously large of audiences.
I think to back up ur ts, stating the fact is not enough. What is the unwelcome consequence of freedom of speech in Internet? So in contrary, formal education acts much better than other ways.
To sum up, I fundamentally agree with the speaker’s assertion that formal education plays a primary role in spreading values. In today’s world, TV and Internet, as well as formal education, can influence people’s ideas.
Again, ur statement doesn’t sounds strong enough to me. “TV and Internet, as well as formal education, can influence people’s ideas” to what extent? Are they threatening the primary status of formal education?
我也觉得在perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears 方面 好像有点偷换概念。
