Issue153: Students should bring a certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively.

限时只写了333 words ,几乎失去了活下去的勇气。花了更多时间进行修改,终于快到500字了。要是限时能文思泉涌该多好啊。


The speaker claims that students should keep skepticisms in their study rather than passive acceptance. In my point of view, although undue skepticism will be counterproductive for students’ education, I agree with the speaker for the reason that proper skepticism will lead to the development of society and promote students’ capability of independent thinking and solving problems.

To begin with, skepticism in science and technology lead to more new theories and innovations which enhance the overall progress of the society. It is the curiosity and skepticism that galvanize scientists and technicians to make every effort to purse truth with the consequence of developing new discoveries and inventions, many of which were break-through and accelerated the progress of the society and even the world. Looking back to history, there are many renowned figures supported this asserts. "I think, there I am." Descartes claimed this to encourage people to keep skepticism in their study. Bacon also advocated people to question the authority to make progress. With skepticism, Copernicus proposed the Heliocentric Theory to challenge the geocentric view that earth is the center of universe. Still with skepticism, Einstein questioned the traditional physical theory established by Newton and developed the great Theory of Relativism. If people always accepted what they taught passively and never questioned the authority, there would be no curious researches implemented and discoveries achieved, and accordingly, our society would fail to advance and stay in stagnancy,

Moreover, proper skepticism will help students to develop the ability of independent thinking and prevent teachers to make mistakes during their teaching. Imparting knowledge to students is not the only focus of modern education. By encouraging students to question what they are taught, teachers can gradually develop their abilities of problem finding and independent thinking. These abilities will be indispensable in their further study and future career life. Hardly can we imagine that students, when they grow up and step into society, have the capability of finding problems in their work proactively, not to say take action to solve the problems and get improvement. On the other hand, proper skepticism will avoid some mistakes made by teachers during their teaching. Not all teachers are 100% correct when they teach lessons. If teachers impart wrong ideas or knowledge due to certain reasons and no students stand out to question such flaws, they will treat the wrong as right and this will bring harm to their study.

However, undue skepticism might be counteractive to students' study. Common sense and real experience inform us that students need to first develop the fundamental knowledge before they raise questions. Too much emphasis on skepticism will lead to self-righteousness. Instead, teachers should help students to develop the habit of working out solutions immediately after proposing the question.

In sum, proper skepticism will lead to society development and will benefit individual student in their capability development of independent thinking and problem solving. Hence we need to encourage students to bring skepticism in their study.

In my point of view, although undue skepticism will be counterproductive for students’ education, I agree with the speaker for the reason that proper skepticism will lead to the development of society and promote students’ capability of independent thinking and solving problems. (尽量不要在开头简单重复作者的观点,最简单的变化就是在他的观点后面加上一个你认为对或者不对的原因。)

Instead 不知道为什么要用instead,没有任何对立的关系阿, teachers should help students to develop the habit of working out solutions immediately after proposing the question. 这句总结好像不搭阿,感觉从你这段得到的总结应该是在学生质疑之前应该应该传授给他们基础知识和如何正确的质疑。

In sum, proper skepticism will lead to society development and will benefit individual student in their capability development of independent thinking and problem solving. Hence we need to encourage students to bring skepticism in their study.

这道题好像还是比较友善的,不过找到合适的例子也不容易啊,段落很清楚,论点也比较过硬,缺点是语言有待改善,二三段好绕啊,呵呵,其实这也是我的缺点。

谢谢fircatty,I think, there I am. (我思故我在)是怀疑论的精华内容,这是我看猴哥的作文书中说的,放在这段其实我也觉得并不特别能说明对科技发展的推动作用,但不舍不得(这是我第一次好不容易找到一个可以用的名言啊,呵呵)。我在考试一下,实在不行就不要了。

proactive是“主动的”意思,这个词外企文化里经常用,就是发自内心地那种主动性。

这段时间压力超大,我会把大家的意见总结起来,统一找一天时间改这些我写过的作文。
