Astrology, fortune-telling and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs especially on the entertainment aspect. However, it also gives birth to a great deal of lasting problems for our society.
The nonmainstream areas offer us a good technique to release and entertain us. Unlike mainstream science, nonmainstream areas do not require much logical thinking, and people have no need to take an amount of time and mental energy to think its  rationality. At the same time it satisfied the curiosity of human beings which in ways mainstream science can not. Therefore, to some extent, such inquiries make us feel less pressure and more pleasure.
The nonmainstream areas of inquiry can provide an opportunity to fulfill the dreams we can not be satisfied in the reality, coupled with some benefits out of expectation. Human beings constantly dream to have some paranormal abilities which can distinguish themselves from others. That’s why the movie about such materials are beloved by us deeply, for example Superman, Spiderman, batterman as well as Harry Potter, not just to be attracted by vivid pictures of movie but to realize our dreams.
Moreover, the nonmainstream areas of inquiry can give birth to some unexpected benefit.  For example, what else but flying by brooms, with none of restrictions to fulfill our ever-lasting dream , would fascinates our children invariably loving to fancy some. It is this amazing book  filled with subjects of nonmainstream areas of inquiry draws our children back from televisions and computer games, which has been their parents' lasting dream. In addition, the writer has successfully transimitted the spirit of independence, co-operation, courage and love though the experiences of the hero, Harry Potter.
However, other than the advantages aforementioned, nonmainstream areas of inquiry also give rise to jeopardize the whole society, incluing the influence on children and  giaours. Children with both litte knowledge and experiences have litte ability to distinguish between the true and the false. Exposing them in such non-scientific environment without of proper instructions , they will drop into unexpected dangers, so does society. In the last centry of ninties in China, there was extremely famous teleplay in which heroes can shuttle from our world to the heaven and hell freely. After that finished, three 10 years old children suicided to imitate what they watch from television. What a pity for these three naive children. It is precisely the same with adults lacking enough knowledge, just considering the jeopardies caused by giaours.

Simply  put, every coin has two sides, admittly nonmaistream areas of inquiry satisfied our needs, nevertheless it have triggered a great deal of social problems. Whether it benefits or harms the entire society largely depent on how we utilize it.

Society does not place enough emphasis on the intellect- that is, on reasoning other cognitive skill.

Society should place more emphasis on the intellect, nevertheless  the responsibility of society is more than that, and it also should put much stress on emotion and imagination.

Absence of intellect, the whole society would plunge into a precarious state. Of all the ingredients triggering crimes, the most primary reason is lack of ability of reason, with improper approches to control their emotion such as outrage.This point make me remind a impressive scene in the movie" Seven Sins". When the police acted by Peter knew that his beloved wife was murdered, he killed the murderer directly. As a matter of fact, human beings are more inclined to depend on their instinct than their reasoning skill to address problems. Although that police mentioned above was aware that the murderer's purpose was to outrage him in order to lead him to violate the law, and although his duty as a policeman was to prevent crime, he still let his outrage decide all. Therefore, such is certainly necessary that society should put more stress on the intellect to reduce instinct working on humans. The more people lose their logical thinking, the more safty of society is lost.

Moreover, reasoning and other cognitive skill is the sourse to improve for our society. Cognitive skills enable us to overcome empiricism to steer clear of obstacle for the development of our society. Each scientific theory has its limit, which means that its state of being right is invariably based on some preconditions. Put it in other way, no theory is perfect. It is the reasoning and cognitive skill that instruct Einstein to find out the limit of classical physics estabilished by Newton and produced the theory of relativity. Thus, the cognitive skill is the basical skill for us to study and research and the power of our evolution as well.

On the other hand, a cold society, with none of emotion, is terrible, even if it is full of logic and entirely in order. The positive emotions such as sympathy , mutal love are required by the society. Without emotion, our society has no differences with machine’s world and absence of emotion will result in a great deal social problems. And the emotions between people can solidify the society.Moreover, the imagination also require our emphasis. A society, with none of imagination lose the power to improve as well.The imagination without restriction of reality may be the only technique for us to break the limit of us.

Simply put, our society should take more responsibility than emphasis on  the intellect, and it also should place effort on cultivate the noble emotion and imagination.
