I fundamentally agree with the speaker's broad assertion that the greatness of individuals can be recognized by those who live after them. However, the speaker unnecessarily asserts that these great people can only be recognized by those who live after them but never by their contemporaries, while in fact there are also lots of individuals who are regarded to be great both in and after their times.
One compelling argument in favor of the speaker’s assertion has to do with the fact that there are a lot of great people who were out of step with their times thus can not be recognized by their contemporaries. In the world of art, the most great artists paint with extraordinary creation and imagination that their works are not so easy to be accepted by their contemporaries. Consider the great artist Van Gogh for instance. In all his life, he almost could not make his life on painting due to the fact that there were few people who appreciated his works. However, a hundred years after his death, his paintings are regarded to be the most great artistic miracles and cost millions of dollars.
The most great thinkers always have the same fate. Take the ancient Chinese thinker Confucius for example. He believes that the ruler of a government should lead an exemplary life and love the people in the nation, then the nation would become prosperous. At his times, there were lots of small countries in China, but few of the contemporary rulers would listen to him or just gave him a chance to try. However, thousands years later, in the Song Dynasty ,the King of China began to realize the value of the Confusion theory. Since then, his theory has spread to Japan ,Korea, even western countries and has influenced lots of Asian countries' culture fundamentally.
However, history also presents examples that contradict the speaker's opinion. Scientists whose discoveries can be put in to practice immediately are regarded to be great by their contemporaries and they are also great in the evaluation of those who live after them. Consider Madam Curie, who discovered new radioactive elements contributed a lot to the treatment for cancer. She got Nobel Prize for twice in her life and is still respected by people now. Politicians who bring welfare to his people were also loved by their contemporaries. Present Washington is a good illustration. When he refused to be a king of the new nation and made the regulation that none of American presidents have the authority to remain in power more than 8 years, all American people loved him. Two hundred years have passed, he is still regarded to be the Father of America and loved by all those who advocate democratic political system.
In conclusion, there are indeed plenty of examples to justify that the greatness of individuals can always be decided by those who live after them. However, there were also countless heroes or heroines in our history who got reputations during their own time since their behavior bring happiness to people. While history is a fair judge, the contemporary people can also recognize some of their great guys.
我早上也写了这篇issue,感觉没你好呢:)一起加油吧

However, history also presents examples that contradict the speaker's opinion. Scientists whose discoveries can be put in to (into) practice immediately are regarded to be great by their contemporaries and they are also (deemed to be) great in the evaluation of those who live after them. Consider Madam Curie, who discovered new radioactive elements contributed (contributing) a lot to the treatment for cancer. She got Nobel Prize for twice in her life and is still respected by people now. Politicians who bring (brought) welfare to his people were also loved by their contemporaries. Present (President) Washington is a good illustration. Two hundred years have passed; he is still regarded to be the Father of America and loved by all those who advocate democratic political system.
In conclusion, there are indeed plenty (lots) of examples to justify that the greatness of individuals can always (is mainly) be decided by those who live after them.
