"As long as people in a society are hungry or out of work or lack the basic skills needed to survive, the use of public resources to support the arts is inappropriate-and, perhaps, even cruel- when one considers all the potential uses of such money."


It is true that public resources should be used to support the people that are hungry or jobless or lack the basic skills needed to survive, but the arts are equally important and generally, the investment on arts could get extra profits for the society.

Admittedly, in the society, there are a large amount of people who are in the state of hunger, joblessness and lacking the basic surviving skills requiring the support of the public resources. In many areas, chronic diseases, low level of medical conditions, and even the natural catastrophes cause numerous people leading a tough life. Everyday, there are hundreds of thousands of people in some certain corner of the world worrying about their next meals. This is a common problem in almost every country, no matter the developed one or the developing one. In the west of China, most children could not receive school education due to poverty; while in some certain corner of the backstreet in America, lots of refugees sleep by the road in the freezing wind. Obviously, the public resources should emphasis on these people, however, we could not wait until there is not a single individual suffering from poverty to support the development of arts. If so, the arts would never be developed, because the phenomenon of poverty is hard to thoroughly eliminate.

Then, no one could ignore the importance of arts in human's daily life. Arts, the piths of human's creativity and innovation, record the histories and cultures of the nations. Through the art works, one could understand the tradition and culture of one's own country and others' which help the communication and cognition between nations. Secondly, people could walk into a world full of imagining through appreciating arts. The creativity is the most valuable characteristic of art works. Furthermore, people could get fully relax from arts. After a day's tiring work, watching a wonderful film or listening a splendid concert or walking into the museum appreciating the great art works would certainly relieve the pressure from the real world. In short, arts play an important role in people's daily life.

Furthermore, art could sometimes bring about financial incomes which could be used for the support of the people suffering from poverty. We can often hear the news that several pop singers get together to hold a concert on the purpose of allocate money for the rural children who are out of school. Similarly, the famous painters sometimes organize the exhibition to sell their paintings and contribute the income to the philanthropy. Excluding these beneficent deeds, some businesses of art could also solve the problem of joblessness. For example, if the film industry could be flourishing, the opportunity of employment would increase that fewer people may be out of work.

To sum up, it is equally crucial using public resources to support both the people who are hungry or jobless or lack the basic skills needed to survive and the development of arts. In addition, supporting on art could bring about funds for the poverty.
