Recently, there is a general controversy on what we should consider more, disciplined concept or the concrete facts? In my perspective, compared to being engaged in theoretical things, I would like to be a practical one.

In the first place, I majored in computer science. As far as I'm concerned, in my experience, simply being aware of the disciplines printed on the text books doesn’t make sense. In that case, I won’t be able to write any programs, which is the key point in evaluating our capacity. The only thing I can finish is to pass my final exams. However, when I am engaged in those real problems in my future career as a coder, those tests have nothing to do with my working assignments. In other words, I’m not competitive in my field. To me, practicing is of the highest priority.

Secondly, as is known to all, practice is the sole criterion for testing truth. It doesn’t say that the theories are the critical thing for judgment. When we have developed a theory, we must apply it to the concrete process, if the experiment result turns out to be good, we can say that the theory is correct. Otherwise, it can’t be used in the real production or other usages. For instance, when I have finished a program, it is the essential part for me to debug or run it to find some problems. If not, just relying on my theories will be very difficult for me to find out my mistakes.

Admittedly, theory is the basic need for us to be practical. What I want to emphasize is that comparatively speaking, facts are more important. After we have gained the foundation, we should focus on how to apply it instead of limiting our outlook on out text books.
