It may be a way to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level that faculty are working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach. However, as far as I am concerned, the harm outweighs the benefits to the college students to suggest such an idea.

Admittedly, some faculty can reach more up-to-date information and knowledge by working outside and they will instruct students what is more utilized and what is more profitable in college study. They can make their students more smart and profitable. For example, an MBA professor can work in a large company who are more skilled in the practical field than those professors who only get one job. So his students can get more experience about the present tendency of marketing and then they will more clearly know what are their main purpose of study during college.

However, there are many subjects which do little relationship with the outside experience such as some basic research field like Physics, Chemistry, Biology. Most of achievements in these fields are acquired in the lab in the universities or institutions. Labs are best harvest places for those professors. Therefore, it is better for those faculty to do more work in their labs not outside the academic world so that they can have more energy in exploring the world theoretically and make their students more competent in the academic aspects. On the other hand, there are not many posts for the faculty in schools. Many suitable posts are offered to the all-day job not a part-time job. Even if they have enough experience and skills, the competition has not become so severe as today. Therefore, it is not easy for all faculty to find a outside vocation in the relevant field.

In addition, every one has definite energy. If he got two jobs at the same time, he may not be as efficient as those who are putting all their hearts in the teaching activities. Even though those who work in some companies can have more practical experience, probably they will lose intereest in teaching or they exhaust too much time in their company affairs to teach the students heart and soul. A survey through out the national universities have showed that about 86 percent of college students from different majors are more inclined to be taught by those professors who has only one job in school and 67 percent of them give their justification that the professors who also work outside teach more perfunctorily. This statistics may further illustrate that professors only work in school may get more welcome by students. There is another possibility that the professors also working outside think they have earned enough money in the company so they may resign the posts of teachers. In that case, our college will lose more personal resources which brings more loss to students.

Further, the professor could only provide the experience of himself but the present tendency is diversified so that many people may confront different new situations. In that case, the skills the professor provides for students in his outside work may not still be suitable and effective when they begin to work for their own. After all, it is unilateral not general like what is learned in schools. Moreover, the most important affair for students is to master the basic knowledge and establish a solid foundation which is original, comprehensive arms. These factors can contribute a lot in their future jobs as a general instruction. Since the up-to-date information the professor tell them reached through the outside work may be out of date when their students work several years later, the idea that suggest all faculty find a outside job may have little function.

Therefore, it is more important for professors to improve the elementary teaching activities for college professors and prevent themselves from distract energy by another part-time job. Their substantial task is the most great, important enterprises of teaching.

整篇文章给我的感觉是题目很大， harm outweigh benefit, 但是你的观点的成立有很多前提，比如倒数第二段说的情况应该适用于 教授基础学科的老师 或者 行业情况变化很快的专业。倒数第三段的局限我已经说了。所以论点就应该窄。个人观点仅供参考。
