Whether the study of common sense or a branch of knowledge, such studying process related to education is both constituting and remolding human framework of world view. I fundamentally agree with the author’s assertion that the study of an academic subject translates the way of our apperceiving the world in that such notion reflects the cognitive procedure of human beings, about which human always recognize themselves and the mysterious world through devious and spiral ways.

Above all, human beings are born with ignorance and innocence. Though the study, they become more intelligent and objective to deal with the world than ever before. As uncivilized creatures, they tend to recognize themselves and the world with more emotion rather than with intelligence. With knowledge instilled, especially in any academic discipline, human being is increasingly cultivated, and then is apt to perceive the world with multi-angle of view, which results in their attitudes to the world with more fair and objective. Take a controversial issue, abortion, for example. Just from the medical point, abortion indeed represents a development of modern medicine, at least as an unimaginable case one hundred years ago; from the religious point of view, it may infringe upon human rights; from the respect of political economy, it is a national policy for the sake of harmonious development in undeveloped countries. Without sufficient specific background and knowledge, human perspective to the world would bog down the unintelligent and unfair dilemma of either right or wrong. Therefore, by the study of academic subject, what about human seeing the same world with different eyes means their perspectives about the world with diverse and diversiform angle of views.

What is more, through the study of academic disciple, human will find out their own deficiencies and correct their fallacies as before in reality, especially in effects to the world. As we know, just as the development of science comes through the negatively and spirally ascending way, so does the human perspective to the world. Consider, take global warming as an example. About sixty years ago in the Occident, global warming as a relatively avant-garde notion, a few meteorologists have once warned people that overuse of fossil fuel--coal, oil, etc.--will lead to tragic effects on global weather. What is worse, it is through deliberately irrational and illegal methods that a good many famous firms and even developed countries encumber the truth exposed, and even viciously abate the actual effects for the sake of their own benefits. With the further study of relevant disciplines, such as chemistry, meteorology, environmental engineering, archaeology, and so on, human increasingly recognize that greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, water vapor and methane that allow incoming sunlight to pass through but absorb heat radiated back from the earth's surface, are main factors to result in the greenhouse effect. And now in order to make up human lapses, governments have enacted a serried of rules and acts to decrease and eliminate the direct and indirect emission of carbon dioxide. What is wiser, the recently proposed notion about carbon neutral, as a more active method to neutralize the effect of carbon dioxide to the world, was quickly popular and even appeared on the new Oxford American dictionary in 2006. This case illuminates that the deeper human beings study academic disciplines, the more ridiculous their former misconducts have been, the more various their perspectives to the world differs from the before.

Finally, though the study of any academic subjects, the broader and deeper human possess of knowledge about the world, the more tolerant they deal with their surroundings, and then the better the world has been and will be. Common sense tells us that tolerance is one of the fundamental characters, on which any democratic society is based. Take the homosexuality as an apt example to illuminate this point. Merely considering form religion, homoerotism is nothing but heresy, of which God does not permit; from the hereditary aspects, gay or is not everything but the result of abnormal mutation, on which God plays a joke; for the historic views, human was born with the possibility of homosexuality, it is the same today that it always was, and it will never perish; form the sociology, it is a key factor of social security and harmony; form the psychology, it results likely from environmental influence and mental injury. And now through comprehensively apperceiving homosexuality by the aid of academic disciplines, common people treat them with more tolerable and understandable attitudes rather than with discrimination, persecution, and even holocaust. Therefore, the more tolerable human is, the more harmonious the society must be, the finer the world is than the past.

In sum, the study of an academic discipline cannot only alter our angle of view to the world, but also cultivate objective attitude and tolerant habit of mind to the world. The more objective and tolerant human attitudes are, the more democratic the society is, and the better the world is.
