"The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."

提纲:

1.       历史使人智慧,能改变人看事物的角度和深度,以及面对事物的态度
2.       研究过去来解决现实中的重大问题
3.       记住历史,能避免走过去的错误路
4.       尽管有些历史已过时,但是取其精华,去其糟泊。

The discussion of the issue among the value of study of history has come into vogue during the last decade. In my point of view, I disagree with the speaker for some obvious reasons.

History can deepen our thinking, and make us have a better view of the world, not only influence details of daily lives. Francis Bacon once said, "History makes men wise." An engineering student who has historical eyes would make decision more philosophical, and can have a whole view of the problem being solved. What's more, the complication and heaviness of historycan give us a peaceful heart to confront with this society. And that is the reasons why history is a compulsory course for middle school students.

History experiment also can be useful to solve serious problems of realistic life. For instance, for the economic crisis during 1929~1933, economist John Maynard Keyes conceded that high unemployment being a result of insufficient consumer spending, could be relieved by government-sponsored programs, then proposed the Macro-economic Control. And it comes to an important part of President Franklin Roosevelt’s “New Deal”. And now, it’s still a powerful tool by governments, making sure that the economic market is working well. From this part, we can conclude that it’s worthy to learn past to solve national problems.

On the other hand, just like the poet and philosopher George Santayana put it, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Some phenomena can be foundrelevant in the past, and learning lessons from the past is a good way to prevent them. It seems not relevant to our daily lives, but does influent the future of the mankind, such as the attitude to Nazi.(这个例子现在觉得应该再多论述一下)

It is true that, for the temporal reasons, some parts of history may be unfit to this processing world, but what we should learn is the spirit of the past, and to promote the whole lives, not only the daily details.

To sum up, there is no doubt that it is worthy to study history for the influence of whole world. However, from the discussion above, we should have a rational attitude to the past, absorb its spirit and discard its unfit ones.

(让步的那段,论述不充分,想不好怎么改……)
