When asking why so many people like playing games, over 95% of answers are the same: for fun. However, regarding the definition of fun, there may be hundreds of thousands of different answers. Some of players satisfied only when they win a game, while others just enjoy the course of game itself. As for me, I side with the opinion that the hilarity of playing itself is far more important than merely the satisfaction of winning.

The most significant reason so may people like playing games is that it relieves us from our daily concern. In other words, we take game as a recreation. I have a college mate Darrell whose position is a marketing manager. He is a competent manager and good at outwitting his competitors and “winning” the customers. However, after work, when we playing poker or video games, he tends to be a loser. I asked him why and got an answer that he is expiating because he is tired of business plot and being unmercifully attacking others to win. Game supplies him a good vent.

Darrell may be an excessive example, but he did reveal us an important fact that we play game because we want to be happy. A game deviates from its real purpose if one turns it into a competition and focus only on result – winning. What will be the result if every player focuses on championship? Obviously, there is just one winner and several losers. Then it turns out to be one will be happy at the price of other’s unhappiness. Isn’t this sound brutal?

For those who only care about the result of a game, he or she loses the real fun of a game --- duration. Which one makes you happier, cooperate intimately with your family but unfortunately fail to win, or play tricks yourself and win a game ignominiously? Moreover, many people play games as an activity to increase friendship. The winner may hurt the feeling of a lose-craven and be endowed with jealous remarks. In this sense, sometimes, it is better to lose a game.

Admittedly, no one likes to fail. However, as in a game, what’s the big deal to lose! And do keep in mind, the more you want to win, the more, turns out, you lose. So, forget about the result and enjoy the game itself!
