“The significance of history” is always the centre of violent controversy and therefore it is manifest that it can hardly be concluded into a few words. Nevertheless, the author points out that the chief benefit of the study of history is to break down the illusion. From my own perspective, the author’s assertion is unilateral and oversimplified.
Admittedly, I concede that people in all ages have a lot in common.
Those similar characters including both good and bad nature, which are deeply in people’s mind表达很别扭,不简洁 and will not fade away as time passes. To be precise(precisely speaking)这样行不行, we are curious about the world around; we are smart to explore unknown things; we are greedy over other people’s possessions, we are evil to wages wars once and again换一种表达会不会好一点,用词不准确, to name but few. Since the natures of our human beings have striking similarities, which means something moved or illuminated our ancestors may have the same effect to modern people. That’s the reason why some fables and folklores can still exist and can be appreciated by modern people. All those things inform us that history, indeed, breaks the illusion that we are totally different from our forefathers.
However, the notion that the meaning of history is only confined to reminding people that we are no different after all is also myopic. The necessity of history study lies in its functions to pass our precedents’ legacy, to learn from our forefathers’ lessons and to give people and even a society spiritual comfort.
As is known to all, history is the condensation of a country’s wisdom. 这个是TS吧?)(我的主题句在上一段全部标出来了, pass our precedents’ legacy)Take China for example, China is a country with glorious history and civilization. Under such circumstance, when a Chinese knows the fact that this country possess such brilliant history, undoubtedly, he or she will feel so proud of it, and even more, he or she may get the motivation to study hard in order to known more about the country. Nowadays, many companies have applied Confucianism into their management; The Academy ministry has already applied Sunzi, the art of the war, as one of their text book. The widespread use of Chinese traditional culture demonstrated that China five thousand years history has vigor and vitality even in 21st century. All those things, whether tangible or intangible, render Chinese people a sense of pride and belonging as well, which make a Chinese a real Chinese. On the contrary, people who haven’t known history will never get such kind of feeling, let alone shouldering the responsibilities of passing them to our future generations.
本段的TS 是: 历史是智慧的结晶 ,这面整个一段的论述是悠久的历史让人们骄傲,有归属感,不知道历史的人没有这些感觉,更别谈责任。是这样的吧? (如果是,我看不出他们之间的关系。)
Furthermore, another conspicuous benefit of history lies in teaching modern people some lessons. History has already witnessed many mistakes made by historical figures. Even worse, some mistakes are constantly(continuously) repeated. For instance, it doesn’t call for too much argument that war is, more often than not, a disaster for mankind. Nevertheless, men keep waging wars and killing lives. Though it is still a long way to go for us to eliminate all wars once and forever, we may learn from all the historical data what horrendous tragedy can be caused by wars! So at least, after the Second World War, we are all very conscious to prevent a manic such as Hitler to seize power. That’s really a lesson we learned, which will always keep reminding us。
Last but not least, it is worth mentioning that history can benefit both individuals and societies with reference to spiritual comfort. For individuals, there are sometimes they can hardly find suitable ways to release their anxieties and therefore go to extremes. If they can turn their view to history and learn the classic cases like Beethoven and Helen Keller, who suffered from adversities but they expressed great courage to fight against their destiny, things will be better. In other words, history offers people solace. On a large scale, for societies, the 2008 financial crisis is an unprecedented disaster for those astonishing mysteries are erased and leaves only indefinable regret Empirical evidence through history reveals that the economic recovery, undoubtedly, will appear after the disaster.(这句话看不很懂) (经济危机抹去了很多奇迹然后留下的只有难以名状的遗憾,但是无数的先例告诉我们,每次经济危机之后都会迎来经济复苏)The economical booms after the economical depression in 1933 and the financial problem during Bill Clinton’s presidency serve as the convincing examples. And those successful cases in history inspire people to cheer up when confronted with contemporary financial crisis.
Overall, based on the factors mentioned above, I confidentially draw the conclusion that the benefits of history are manifold, rather than simply separate people from illusions.
,这篇文章结构很清晰,过渡段很到位,内部论证有问题。继续加油 |
