TOPIC: ISSUE157 - "There is no such thing as purely objective observation. All observation is subjective; it is always guided by the observer's expectations or desires."

Subjective or objective observation, which one should our human beings keeps touching the world? It seems that most of us claim that we naturally chase for the purely objective observation. However in effect, this goal is hardly to be achieved, wherever in science area or in art field. I partly agree what the speaker says, but I also state that we human try to incline to reach the purely objective observation, because of the eternal truth-----the existence of man.
Human is born to be a kind of animals which has advanced intelligence and fully emotion. This nature inevitably leads us to be a paradox, which means when we try to be more rational, we can not help but to live with irrational decisions. Furthermore, the society effect plays a more vital role. The elderships admonish us to observe objectively when we are in childhood. Some immature subjective observation is utilized in our daily lives to distinguish one thing from another. And when one id mature enough, s/he still use his/her knowledge in special region, along with his/her subjective judgment, to describe and interpret certain nature phenomenon, while s/he still thinks himself/herself is objective. So mostly, it is subjective observation that makes up the system of human cognition. And the purely objective observation seems to be merely a dream existing in utopia.
However, human is also born to be assiduous and unremitting. Although people never see the dawn of the victory about the purely objective observation, we are doing our best to be close with the axiom. Take the history of microcosmic recognition as an example. From the pioneer theory presented by Newton which is called emission theory, to the Huygens thoughts called the Undulatory Hypothesis of Light, the antecedents use their subjective observation to express the light. And it seems to be a adequate objective criterion when Einstein put forward relativity. Scientists consider the relativity is the purely objective observation in the end. Nevertheless, when Hawking put his notion on the table, who can definitely say we have already succeed in discovering the truth of atom? So, admittedly, the purely objective observation is rare to be caught, but it is possible to get close with the standard infinitely.
Actually, most of our recognitions are based on both the subjective and objective observation. Human beings acknowledge the facts through the two aspects. According to the theory taken by the famous philosopher Hegel, who has ever put forward the system of objective idealism, the Absolute Idea, as unity of the Subjective and Objective Idea, is the notion of the Idea--a notion whose object is the Idea as such, and for which the objective id Idea--an Object which embraces all characteristics in its unity. And the Materialist dialectics, which is based on the Absolute Idea taken by Max and Engels, surely express the dialectic relationship between the subjective and objective observations. So, we human recognize the world with the combination of the two different observations, which are actually have the dialectic common things.
Maybe there is not a easy solution to such a complex problem, however, as long as there is still the existence of man, there will always be the steps go after the idealism about the purely objective observation. Subjectiveness makes us particular in this world and enlivens us with so many colorful ideas. Objectiveness is what we are chasing for, though it seems impossible, but must be existed in the distance or already existed nearby. |
