I concede with the author that people of different periods are similar in most aspects.
However, it is too hasty to draw the conclusion that it is the chief benefits of the history study. the author ignores the difference of people in different periods and many other benefits of history study. As far as I am concerned, the chief benefit of the study of history is to get acknowledged of the basic human natures, which merely change with the times.

Through the study of history, we can find that many things have been there from the beginning of human beings. Many problems of society, no matter what type of a society, have never been solved by the times. The problems involve how to avoid wars which bring only destruction or even extinction to most people, how to get the liberty and equality of human, how to give justice to all the people and so on. Though we all know the destructive impacts of a war and we all learn that the negatives always outweigh the positive of a war through the study of the history, we can't avoid a war sometimes. Because these problems bring us to confront moral dilemma. American's intervention in Iraq's interior ends the autocracy of Saddam and liberate most Iraqi. Nevertheless, it also costs thousands of lives of innocent people. The war brings revolution to a society, but we also sacrifice much for that. We can criticize the wars in history but we can promise it will never begin in our times.
A war is related to the human desires of equality and liberty, human greed of interests, which merely change. To this extent, people are not different from people who lived at any other time in history.

However, there are also a mass of things change with different period of time. The condition people live, the customs, the value system, the main challenges and problems change. With the development of science and technology, we live a more convenient life. The invention of engine, computers and mobile cars are far beyond imagination of people in hundreds of years before. Even if many things don't change surficially, the way these things reflect in our life is different. Take war as an example again. In the past people fight with each others with bows and arrows, but now a war needs only several minutes. The technology used in war and the nuclear weapon are far more advanced than before. It is apparent that the society we live is much different from the past society.


Considering the difference and the same aspects between people of different period, in my point of view, the chief benefit of the study of history is to get a command of basic human natures, which hardly change with the times. We know the sins of human, so we have the laws and morality to restrict human behaviors, which play an important role to maintain the order of a society. People all hold a precious heart of curiosity and eager to know the world, which is the main drive of the development of science and technology, so many governments provide education to children for free. We get to be acknowledged about our basic natures, take action according with them, and pose society to a new level of advancement.


To sum up, a command of basic human natures is the main benefits of history study. History teaches us to be more tolerant to each others and be compassionate about others' mistakes. In addition, history gives lessons to us and drive our society to develop in all fields.

Through the study of history, we can find that many things have been there from the beginning of human beings. To sum up, a command of basic human natures is the main benefits of history study. History teaches us to be more tolerant to each others and be compassionate about others' mistakes. In addition, history gives lessons to us and drives our society to develop in all fields. 重写结尾段，虽然你想做升华，但是本段开头应该做好顺势的铺垫。
