161.In a study of reading habits of Leeville citizens conducted by the University of Leeville, most respondents said they preferred literary classics as reading material. However, a follow-up study conducted by the same researchers found that the type of book most frequently checked out of each of the public libraries in Leeville was the mystery novel. Therefore, it can be concluded that the respondents in the first study had misrepresented their reading habits.

Grounding on the two different studies conducted by the same researchers about the reading habits of Leevile citizens, the author concludes that the respondents in the first study had misrepresented their reading habits. However, there are still some intermediate steps that one can take before jumping into the conclusion.

To begin with, the author oversimplifies the relationship between the citizen's reading preference and their borrowed trend in the public libraries. The first study only shows that the Leevile citizens prefer to read literary classics, while the second study is focusing on the type of book most frequently checked out of libraries. The author's assumption is based on the situation that the most preferred type of books must be checked out most frequently in the libraries. But it is possible that the Leevile citizens like to treasure their most preferred books, which means they buy literacy classics in the bookstores. Lack of such details, the author can not draw any conclusion.

Moreover, the argument fails to provide any details about the public libraries in Leevile and University of Leevile. Because the two surveys are conducted in the two places, it is probable that the different libraries have the different proportion of literary classics and mystery novel. Maybe the libraries in University of Leevile have a large amount of literary classics for their students' professional needs, while the public libraries in Leevile own mass of mystery novels for they want to meet the young's needs. Or maybe the mystery novels are cheap and easy to get for public libraries, while the classics are expensive and hard which only can be treasured by the University. Without offering us such details, the author can not make a progress to reach his conclusion.

Finally, the argument does not indicate some other elements which may influence the results of the study. How much time passed between the two studies? During a sufficiently long period the demographic makeup of Leevile might have changed. Or what portion of the people surveyed actually responded? The smaller this portion is, the less reliable the results can be. These differences between the two surveys can not be neglected before the author makes a conclusion.

To sum up, judging from the aforementioned analysis, the author fails to make his conclusion convinced. To bolster his conclusion, the author needs to provide more details about the two studies, and offers us more information about the casual relationship between the citizens' reading habits and their borrowing preference. Of course, the author can not ignore to provide more information about the University in Leevile and the public libraries in Leevile.
