11.13 Alower-paying job with shorter hours that would give you more vacation time isbetter than a high-paying job that would give you less vacation time?

As thedemand of vacation is on the rise, there’s no denying that the importance oftwo leading factors, money and time, can’t be ignored. However, there would bea possibility that we are confronted with the dilemma that whether we shouldchoose a lower-paying job with shorter hours that would give us more vacationtime or a high-paying job that would give us less vacation time. Personallyspeaking, contrary to those who can be considered as vocation addicts is myheartfelt agreement with the choice of a high-paying job that would give meless vacation time.

Thosewho choose lower-paying jobs with shorter hours may be attracted by morevacation time and less work pressure. Generally speaking, a lower-paying job isusually bonded with shorter hours, so the huge amount of leisure time derivedfrom work can be used to go on a vacation with friends or families. Also, lessjob pressure brings better mood for vacation, thus facilitating to achieve thepurpose of relieving ourselves during a vacation.

Yet, onaccount of the limited salary from a lower-paying job, we may have to visitsome less attractive places that are much cheaper than those that we have beenobsessed with for a long time, which probably ruin the whole trip eventually. Whilemoney is not the obstacle with a high-paying job, the dreams of visiting some strikinglyamazing places that charge an enormous amount of money can be reached. Europe, for example, where I can’t even step on without abundantmoney, has been my dreaming vacation destination since I was in the middleschool.

Thevacation time, indeed, would be condensed by a vocation with high salary. Withour awareness of restriction of vacation time, we will more cherish theconfined reunion time with our friends or families when we can enjoy.Conversely, as we know another chance is waving its hands in the near future, thefrequency of leisure time that lower-paying jobs offer us may result in ourloss of interests to sightseeing, leaving the whole lot of precious timerunning away. Furthermore, vacation is regarded as a means to diminish the workpressure by the multitude of people. Since some people with lower salary areunder less work pressure or even not fans of tourism, why don’t they attempt togain higher salary rather than just end up with staying at home and watchingTV?

Takingall the factors discussed above into account, there may be one or twoadvantages of a lower salary job. Nevertheless, a high-paying job with lessvacation time weighs much heavier than a lower-paying job with more vacationtime.

11.16Visiting museums is the best way to learn about a country.

The curiosity of a certain country is always triggered by watching movies orcommunicating with someone from that country. With the increasing convenientaccess to internet, the next step that most people would choose is to searchfor everything about the country on the internet. Some people, who can affordthe trip and have time to go on vacation, would probably visit the country thatcatches their eyeballs. However, contrary to those who insist in visitingmuseums to learn about a country is my agreement with the standpoint that thereare enormous approaches to know about a country, among which visiting museumscan’t be comprehended as the best one.

There’sno denying that museums display a considerable number of art works, forinstance paintings, sculptures and antiques. Our desires of understanding theculture and history of the country will be strikingly satisfied by thesemasterpieces. On the other hand, we, as tourists, would only spend one or twodays visiting museums. I can’t imagine someone could comprehensively understandthe spirit of a county in such a short period of time. On the other hand, plentyof people who immigrate to foreign countries make their best of fitting in the society, turning out to be wasting the time, not to mention going on a vacation in alimited spell of time.

Nevertheless, the exhibitions displayed in the museums, which express the culture and historyof a country to some extend, can’t represent a country in all dimensions. Apartfrom the arts, other aspects of the country are waiting for us to explore. People, for example, which consist of the major part of a country, vary from country tocountry, even city to city. Therefore, communicating with the local people ishighly recommended to learn about the people’s daily life and the way of localpeople to deal with others.

Furthermore, the importance of economy and politics can’t be ignored when we try to learnabout a country. Some people may point out that economy is such a huge conceptthat everyone can not have the capability to understand it. Of course, there’sno need analyzing a country’s economy like an expert. Yet, the economiccondition would be implied in a couple of aspects, to name a few: the annual averageincome of a family, the unemployment ratio or the potential of a financialcrisis that might hit the country. At the same time, the stability and theparty which dominates a country would reflect some characteristics of it.

Judging fromall the factors discussed above, it’s too hasty to treat visiting museums asthe best way to learn about a country. Not only should communicating withpeople be involved to understanding a country’s spirit, but the contemporarycondition of economy and politics should also be taken into account.

11.18 Itis often not a good thing to move to a new  city or a new country because of the loss of oldfriends.

At thefirst sight of the topic, my memory has been thrown back to 2008, the year whenone of my best friends went to Americafor university. I can still remember the last day when he came to high schooland said goodbye to us. When the majority of the classmates left the classroom,he was still reluctant to leave because he knew that we would hardly meet eachother again.

Somepeople believe that so horrible moving to a new city or a new country is that we will loseour old friends. There’s no denying that the opportunities of meeting our oldfriends, to some extend, will diminish. But don’t forget what the computers andinternet are for! On account of the development and convenience of computersand internet that bring to us, we can easily get in touch with our friendsthrough QQ, MSN or blog. For instance, the friend that I talked about above andI often chat on line about his difficulties that he was or is confronted with. Alsowe both opened blogs on the internet and visit each other’s blog. Instead oflosing my friend, we even become mentally closer.

Othersmay also complain that when moving to a new place, we have to build new socialnetwork without knowing anyone. Nevertheless, contrary to those who are scaredof a fresh new world, I am very excited about meeting and communicating withnew friends. The new social network is not that difficult to establish as longas we face the new world actively. The first day I stepped into my university,6 roommates in my dormitory introduced ourselves and became friends. In thesecond summer holiday, I decided to take an interpret course in campus, where Imade an acquaintance with a junior who helps me with both my study and puzzles Iencountered in campus.

Althoughthe importance of friends can’t be ignored, there are more things waiting forus to explore in a new cityor a new country. Personally, the experiences of learning a new dialect or anew language are really amazing as I discovered the differences of thepronunciation and tone. And I also made plenty of mistakes while I was tryingto speak the local dialect. However, with several months of practice, thefluency of the dialect is almost as good as the locals, which makes me veryproud of myself.

As acollege student, I’m not a child any more and I won’t live under the protectionof my parents forever. Judging from all the factors discussed above, moving toa new place will benefit us more than just staying in our hometown.

11.19 Doyou agree or disagree with the following statement? Observing and studyinganimals’ behavior are useful for knowing more about humans.

The factthat we, as human beings, are derived from animals or monkeys has been verifiedlong time ago. As a result, some people support that observing and studyinganimals’ behavior are useful for knowing more about humans, and even somescientists regard them as a promising access. Some people, on the contrary, argue that the attempt to know more about humans through animals is nonsense. Sois there anyone who can point out the truth? Probably not.

Wetitled ourselves as human beings, but no one can deny the truth that we arestill a part of animals’ world, a kind of animal that can think and talk. Thereexistscertain kind of connection between animals and humans. Somescientists, for instance, use monkeys to study how do people learn to speak andwhat are the characteristics on each learning stage. Observing and studyinganimals’ behavior, to some extend, may help scientists to learn about humans.

Nevertheless, humans, who are highly evolved and socialized, differ from animals in manydimensions. Human behaviors depend on a multitude of factors, to name a few:friends around us, the society, and whether one receives education. Friendsaround us have great influence on us. For example, my friend, who viewedhonesty as the prominent standard, made friends with her roommates. However, her roommates always cheat on exams. Under the influences of her roommates, shecan’t restrain the temptation from cheating, thus ending up with a gravewarning from teachers. This kind of behavior is exclusive among humans, whileanimals are not clever enough to take the risk.

Furthermore, the society in which we are living is another element that will change our lifecourse. The financial crisis, the universal nightmare, drives plenty of peopleto step on the road of going to jail. Many of them wish to live in a happy lifeby their own hands, but it is this catastrophe that made them lose everything, jobs, houses, even family. They can’t figure out another way to move on, sosome of them decided to rob the bank.

In anutshell, humans are a kind of animal affected by various factors. Personallyspeaking, observing and studying animals’ behavior may be an approach to learnsomething about humans scientifically, but humans can never be understood throughstudying animals’ behavior completely.

11.20 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? For successful development of a country, should a government focus its budgetmore on very young children education rather than on universities?

Successful development of a country is basedon various elements, to name a few: technology, economy, policy and education. There’sno doubt that the significance of education can’t be ignored. Some people evenclaim education determines the future course of a country. However, almost allcountries around the world are confronted with the dilemma whether to investmore on very young children education or universities. As far as I amconcerned, focusing its budge more on universities is a wiser choice.

Nevertheless, no one can deny that educationon children is essential, since they are the future of a country. According tostatistics, the crime rate of young children is keeping rising on a dailybasis. If we wish our society is not crowded with criminals, more serious measuresshould be taken to educate and regulate young children. Furthermore, earlyeducation has a continuous and conspicuous influence on a person.

As we all know, universities provideeducation to those who are mainly above 18 years old, which means withinseveral years’ education, the undergraduates and graduates are about to stepinto the real world. They will serve the country immediately, while it willtake more than 10 or even 20 years to educate the very young children tosocialize. As the fresh blood converging into the society, they would bring newideas and new ways of thinking to the companies or government they are workingin. The environment, for instance, has suffered from humans’ damages for quitea long time. The undergraduates and graduates might suggest some new approachesthat they have just learned from universities to relieve pains the natureendures.

Apart from students, a multitude ofprofessors and researchers are bonded with universities. It is these scientistsand researches that invent various equipments and create or discover thosewell-known theories, such as the origin of human beings. The convenience andmodern life the technology brings to us is unbelievably striking. Also, withoutthe researchers’ studying, certain social problems related to children crimes can’be solved properly.

In a nutshell, although the importance ofeducating the young should be taken into consideration, education onuniversities weighs much heavier to a country’s success. If government wantsthe limited amount of money to benefit a country most, its budget should focusmore on universities.

我个人觉得让步段与下面的一段缺乏有效过度,略显生硬.

As we all know, universities provide education to those who are mainly above 18 years old, which means within several years’ education, the undergraduates and graduates are about to step into the real world. They will serve the country immediately, while it will take more than 10 or even 20 years to educate the very young children to socialize. As the fresh blood converging into the society, they would bring new ideas and new ways of thinking to the companies or government they are working in. The environment, for instance, has suffered from humans’ damages for quite a long time.
