9.12 speaking important or writing important?
It is widely accepted that speaking and writing are two critical aspects of a language. While when it comes to the question that which one is more important, people may hold different views. In my opinion, however, speaking is a more powerful skill for people in daily life.

To begin with, speaking is recognized as the fundament of communication. For instance, suppose that you plan to travel to United States or Japan, if you can speak in English or Japanese, then it is much easier for you to communicate with local people and to learn their customs, culture, history and other interesting stuff from conservations. In contrast, if you do not have the ability to speak in their language, then the only thing you can do is to take your translator all the time no matter what place you want to visit, which is obviously expensive and inconvenient.

Moreover, an excellent speaking such as a wonderful speech exerts an essential influence on people's mind and behavior. It is not strange for us that there are a lot of debates and speeches during the election. The speaker uses the speaking skills to attract the audiences' attentions and to persuade them to be the advocate of him. No one can deny that a wonderful speech by the leader of a country can stimulate people's enthusiasm and creativity and even can change the future of the country, such as the United States president's speeches during World War II and great depression.

Of course, it should be admitted that, without writing, we cannot achieve this high level of human civilization and we never know the history of human culture and society several thousand years ago. However, the ability to speak is the precondition and basis of the ability to write. Besides, people can live well in daily life without writing, but it will be very tough when people cannot speak.

In conclusion, although writing serves as a critical skill, speaking should be attached more significances since it serves as the bedrock of communication and influences people's life and development a lot.
