大学应不应该要求所有的学生都学习除了本国文化以外的文化?
With the strong sense of developing all-around students, a hot discussion emerges on whether university should require all students to study foreign cultures besides the national culture. Some people uphold this idea because they maintain that nowadays students should have a more open and international insight, which will obtain through the foreign culture lessons. Meanwhile, other object to this viewpoint that students as an adult should have their freedom to choose what they want to learn. As far as I am concerned, universities should not force all students to participate in the foreign culture study. The reasons are as following. To begin with, not all students have enough energy or are interested in the foreign culture. First, students from scientific major may beg their hands in doing experiments or research papers. Frankly speaking, the lessons in college is not easy, which needs students to pay full attention to finish. Some students might stay up very late to prepare for their final example. If they cannot complete their own businesses, how can university require them to attend the foreign culture classes? Besides, Whether should they learn foreign cultures depends on their preferences. Chemistry students can refuse to take physical lessons, why should all students have to carry on foreign culture study? In general, Foreign culture study should be offered as optional class instead of compulsory one. In addition, university can provide students with more opportunities to access foreign culture, if they want to cultivate students with internatial views. Concerning the literature major students, universities can view the foreign culture lessons as compulsory courses due to that they are obliged to master the knowledge. Regarding other major students, university can open optional courses for whole students. Students who are interested in this aspect can choose to take part in. Universities can also give some lectures or some movies
on foreign culture. In my undergraduate school, they always invited some well-known people to give lectures on different foreign cultures, which benefits me a lot. In conclusion, foreign culture education should be optional
courses instead of compulsory ones, which can not only satisfy those ones who are interested in but also can not be the burden of students who are too busy to attend the classes. Only through this way, more and more students will love the foreign cultures instead of disliking it. |
