History teaches us only one thing: knowing about the past cannot help people to make important decisions today.

1：历史更多的是为了满足人们的求知了解过去的愿望，了解自己祖先的事迹，了解自己的文化进程，增强归属感与自我认知意识（各国历史研究，历史表，政权-古希腊罗马民主自由，当今政治发展源泉）。
2：通过历史上的某些经验教训或者成功事例能够给我们以最大程度的启发，从而避免重犯历史性问题，以及吸收成功经验。（弗吉尼亚理工大学枪杀事件，注重对大学生健康心理的教育。。宾夕法尼亚核电厂泄漏事件，更加科学谨慎的使用核技术。人民圣殿教教众在南美热带丛林集体自杀事件，对邪教恐怖主义的关注。成功事件：文艺复兴时期的诗歌小说画作但丁神曲，达芬奇画作，莎士比亚戏剧。，罗斯福在二战经济危机时的措施也值得当前我们经济危机时加以借鉴学习。
3：但是我们面临的现实毕竟和历史是不一样的，所以在我们做出重大决定的时候，不仅要参照历史，更多的是结合实际情况，作出合理的选择（美国攻打伊拉克）。

The mere understanding that history can only tell us knowledge about past cannot make contributions to our making important decisions today is quite unilateral, even misunderstanding, at least in my point of view. Since we develop from history, it more or less has some relationships with our present, in political, economical, daily living or mental areas. Actually, as a matter of fact, although things changed from time to time, we can still get much from our ancestors and the history they have made.
  To understand the history is to satisfy our desire--knowing about something relevant to our present life, unfortunately, we did not experience even know about them, through the process, we get knowledge about  how our society comes into being as well as its glorious development, about our culture, about our policy, economics and so on. Thus, the identification about who we are, where we are coming from is strengthened and cleared. For instance, we all have history classes around the world, from learning about our own country's origins to the whole pictures about the certain world. We not only rich our knowledge from it--learning the genius liberal ideas of democracy in ancient Greece and Roma, we deeper understand our present political system, but also get a lot of fun through some anecdotes--mostly about some famous persons' interesting stories, like the cherry and Washington, the egg and Vinci and so forth.  
  Furthermore, studying history should put more emphasis on horrible lessons together with successful affaires, via which, we learn to avoid re-live the terrible ones and get some inspirations from the others. Let us take a look back at varies of deeds in our history from the lessons to the successful examples, the Virginia Tech shootings teaches us to intensify the healthy mental education to our nowadays college students, the affair of the Pennsylvania nuclear power plant spilling warns us to be more cautious with the nuclear use, and the mess suicide from the People's Temple, the notorious evil cult alerts us to strike such kind of depraved religion and even terrorism. However, successful events can also be mirrored, we read Dante's Partita, appreciate Shakespeare’s drams, view Vinci's famous paintings, just like we were living in the 13th Italia, experiencing the Renaissance. More instances, Roosevelt’s New Deal during the second economical recessions can also give us some illuminations in our present global financial crisis. More examples are such like, in sum, history can really teach us that much.
  Nevertheless, what we face today is different from the past, it is a fact that everything has changed, so when we make decisions, we should consult our history, but most importantly, accord with our current. Actually, we have a lively example here regarding to the Iraq’s war. The US fought against Iraq's army and easily expelled them from Kuwait and thought that they could easily defeat the government of Iraq in the Second Gulf War, forgetting that the Kuwaitis supported the US coalition coming in (and most thought that the Iraqis would welcome the US in indefinitely), nonetheless, they are tripped in such a war, with large military expenditure and soldier casualty everyday. Actually merely believes in history can make a person or a plan either full of pride or filled with inferiority, however, neither is advisable. The most sensible measure is to make a good use of history, learn their soul, but when in practice, we should recognize our present situations, other than the so-called doctrinarism.
  By and large, history tells us much more than the only thing mentioned in the topic, let alone the idea is mistaken to some extend. We get ourselves identified, learn to avoid making the same mistakes, stimulating some advisable measures so that we can better solve some of our current problems, but there is one thing that we can never forget is history is not almighty, we should deal everything according to our existences.
