The speaker asserts that parents have a better understand about their children 50 years ago than nowadays.While 50 years ago parents seem to have much more leisure time to stay with their children,contradicting the statement, my veiw is that the gap between these two generations never disappers during this period,and parents seem to have more advanced ways to get along with children now,giving supports to the opinions of their children,


My main reason why parents deson’t seem to know their children better is that the extent to which parents know their children dosen’t change during that period.As we all know,there always is a generation gap between people of different ages.Although parents comparetively had less workload 50 years ago and at that time overtime working was not such a common phenomenon as in nowdays,it didn’t mean that parents would spend their additional time on their children.So this is not helpful to fill the gap between parents and children.Moreover,even if parents got along with their children much longer than today’s parents did,it was not necessary to believe that parents had a greater understanding to what their children thought and needed.


Another reason why parents nowadays seem to comprehand better their children is that more scientific methods porvided to parents to deal with the realtionship of their children. If there is no effective way to get along with children,it is possible that the longer parents stay with their children,the more conficts and quarrels occur between them.Fortunately, studies of psychology development of children attain a lot of achievenment.And today’s parents who recive higher education pay more attention on growth of children than before,using psychology knowledge to equip themselves and having an efficient method in communication with their children.It helps them to have a clearer idea of the characteristics of children.

Finally,nowadays parents show understand to their children by supporting their childrens’ own opinions or by not intervening their actions.Parents doesn’t judge their children behaviors by their own standards or values any more but give their suggestion to the problem and leave to children own devices.For example,when facing with the choices among selections of major courses or future careers,children have a high degree of freedom to chose what they want to do now.While in past children were really restricted by infulences from their parents.

In sum,I argues that parents didn’t have a better understanding to the thoughts of their children in past,because of the generation gap,the lack of advantageous way in comprehansion,and less supports .
