Issue130"Howchildren are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately,we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a bettersociety."
Iagree with the speaker’s assertion that “How children are socialized todaydetermines the destiny of society”. It signifies the importance ofsocialization in modern life. When comes to the speaker’s second assertion thatwe have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a bettersociety, I believe it has to do with the definition of the word “ better”.
Firstly,I agree on the speaker’s assertion that the destiny of the society isdetermined by the extent the children are socialized. It is true that there’remany other qualities of the man affect the development of our society. Like thevalues such as honest, persistent, probity, kindness, but the socialization ofthe people undoubtedly plays a key determinant. I would like to extend thisidea by the definition of “socialization”. Socialization, which means thepeople in the society cooperating with each other to work efficiently to meetthe need of man. It emphasizes on a man’s ability to exchange ideas, communicate and cooperate with others. People are born, to some extent, to besocialized. Robinson’s life on an isolated island for 30 years or so isactually impossible to happen in the real life. Only for socialization, we cancooperate with others, we can make our dreams to land on the moon come true.Only to be socialized, we can make full consideration of every project we aregoing to implement no matter in which respect of social construction. See theprogress we have got in this 200 years, is more than the total of the past 2000years. It is contribute to socialization whose extent has much enhanced sincethe past 200 years. Children is the future of our society, so hoe the childrenare socialized determines the destiny of our society.
While, some may argue, with the modernization and industrialization, we are livingmore in the world of ourselves, physical contacts are much less than before. Isthe doom of our society is approaching? Well, in my view, with the advancedtechnology, we can contact with each other much more convenient than everbefore, we are in fact socialized in a totally different way from before. Themodernization strengthen our extent of socialization which means, our societywell develop much more prosperous.
Thespeaker then asserts that we have not yet learned how to raise children tobring about a better society. What is a better society? If we define a better societyto be better technological advanced, sufficient in material life, I believe wecan attain that goal not long before. However, if we define a better society tobe better developed in moral level, psychologically quality as well astechnology, we still have a long way to go. As the fierce competition, we raisechildren emphasizing too much on their academically ability, cultivate them tobe specialists in virious fields to let our world go around faster whileignoring the comprehensive development of them. They have formed thecompetition awareness since childhood, the relationship between classmates arecompetitors rather than sincere friends. They are not so happy as before. That’salso a cause of higher happening of psychological problems. The extent to whichthe technology now attains is enough for us to lead a convenient life. It istime for us to concentrate more on other aspects of life like the interests, characterof them as we come to the question of how to raise children. After all, what weall have dome or well to do is to bring us a comfortable life both materiallyand mentally.
Insum, I agree the writer’s assertion that the destiny of society is determinedby the children’s socialization, for none of the accomplishment or advancementcan be made by only one individual. And we still have a long way to go to raisechildren to attain ort final goal—to be comfortable both in materially andmentally.
