The requirement becomes more and more popular that college and university teachers should take some part-time jobs relevant to the courses they teach outside the academic world in order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level. From my point of view, in most cases it is necessary for teachers to spend time working outside, since both students and university education will benefit from it. Meanwhile, faculty had better keep the balance between academic activities and related professions.

The most direct benefit of the requirement recommended by the speaker is that by taking advantage of the job in industry alike, teachers will improve the understanding of how the knowledge is applied the industry at present time. One chief goal of our education is to make students adapt to the society better. While the pace of the technology advancement and academic progression become so quickly that what the textbooks write doesn't match what are applied in practice. If our teacher fails to trace the latest changes in application and restricted to the content of textbooks, they will never achieve the target of education. This circumstance become more obvious when it comes to the realms such as trade and law, since the principles in these areas are amended frequently and their appliance is flexible in reality as well. Furthermore, practical working experience in the non-academic world relevant their major help teachers combine theory and practice and thus perfect their teaching methods and program.

From another angle, students could design a more practical and suitable career path plan with the help of teachers with abundant working experience and gain advantage from their teachers' work experience. The competition in job market is more and more intensive and most employers require graduates to have deep understanding of the company's business and operation. Unfortunately the majority of students in college or universities do not have sufficient opportunities to learn about the details of companies. However, if a teacher participates in the projects of the company, he or she can share the experience which is beneficial for their future development with students.

Additionally, the speaker need to notice that there are still a part of majors serving in pure theoretical field, like pure mathematics and philosophy, which don't have professions relevant to the course they teach outside the academic world. On the other hand, even though they spend time work outside, their researches probably turn out to be little valuable and applicable to the daily use of society. Hence, that faculty had better spend their time in the university, solving pure mathematical problems theoretically or bringing forward new perspective of philosophy, which can effectively promote the reputation of the university and improve the quality of instruction.

Moreover, I strongly advise teachers finding the balance between academic activities and related professions. It is obvious that when the faculty spends undue time working outside the academic world, it will distract them from being focusing on the study. The achievement and new discoveries in a scholar's own field is the essence of a high-quality instruction. After all, the final target of education is to introduce knowledge to students. A high quality instruction is based on firm knowledge, without which may result in a superficial one.
