题目:ARGUMENT34 - Milk and dairy products are rich in vitamin D and calcium, substances essential for building and maintaining bones. Many people therefore believe that a diet rich in dairy products can help prevent osteoporosis, a disease in which the bones weaken significantly with age and that is linked to both environmental and genetic factors. But a long-term study of a large number of people has found that those who have consistently consumed dairy products throughout the years of the study have a higher rate of bone fractures than any other participants in the study. Since bone fractures are a symptom of osteoporosis, this study result shows that a diet rich in dairy products may actually increase, rather than decrease, the risk of osteoporosis.
Many people think that eating dairy products can persist the osteoporosis, a disease which the bones weaken significantly with the growth of age, based on that the contents in the dairy products such as the vitamin D and the calcium are also the material for building the bones. But the author hold a contrary point based on a poll resulted that long term of eating the dairy products contribute to the occurrence of bone fracture which is a symbol of the osteoporosis. Although it seemed reasonable in the first glance, there are some factors required further consider before convincing me utterly.
The first factor we should consider is the progress of the survey. Although we are informed this is a long study of a large number of people, I still can not believe the result of this survey consistently without the information of the number, age and the somatic prosperities of the people involved in this survey. If the people take part in this study are odder or their bodies are not as health as the average people, it is reasonable they suffer more from the bone fracture. In this case the function of the milk and the dairy products can not be estimated.
Secondly in the progress of this study the bone fracture of the involved people may not only caused by the long term eating of the milk and the dairy products. It is entirely possible that their bone fracture were caused by the environment of them and the specific careers such as the building which is more dangerous to be harmed.
Let's assume that the bone fracture is caused by the eating of the milk and the dairy products. Another thing should be consider: the bone fracture is not equal to the osteoporosis. As the author mentioned it is just a symptom of it. As a result we can not get the conclusion the milk and dairy products contribute to the increase of the osteoporosis.
We can go further to assume that the bone fracture is equal to the osteoporosis and the bone fracture of the people involved in this study are caused by the long term of eating the milk and the dairy products, it is also hard to get the conclusion that milk and the dairy products contribute to the osteoporosis. As the author mentioned the osteoporosis is a disease related to the environmental and the genetic factors, they are much more likely be the reason of the osteoporosis.
As discussed above the evidence provided by the author can not convincing us the milk and the dairy products contribute to the increase of the osteoporosis. To make a more reasonable argument the author should provide the progress of the survey, especially to analysis other factors related to the emerging of the osteoporosis.
