TOPIC: ISSUE160 - "The most essential quality of an effective leader is the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives. Any leader who is quickly and easily influenced by shifts in popular opinion will accomplish little."

A leader -- in any realm -- should have many essential qualities to be effective, among which the ability to strongly committed to particular principles and their goals is very important. However, that adhering do not equal to a completely neglection to other people's opinions, and listening to others do not mean a easy shifting of what the leader used to insist on.
In my opinion, the leader's effectiveness is just based on the idea of committing his own principles and objectives while absorbing other's useful opinions and advises.
It is important for a leader to have a strong will to follow the particular principles, and to achieve his goal. This is not an easy job and calls for great efforts. At the same level, this principle must be chose carefully with regard to both the group he is leading as well as other people, and the objective, or the ultimate goal, should
reflect the nature of his group, and on behalf of the benefits of every member. Both the principles and the objectives should under a deep and serious consideration when choosing and upholding. For example, in political area, the political leader's principles and objectives have to be chosen for the benefits of the people and the whole society. What's more, the adhering of these principles and objectives is the driving force to thrive and flourish the country, and a reflection of a leader's vigour and foresight. Many political leaders, such as Putin and Gandhi, are all "iron-willed" leaders.In a ddition, there are various other reasons contributing to be an effective leader, and it is hard to define which is the most essential one, which might vary from different field, and different time period.
Then after the leader's cautiously chosen of his principle and objectives, it is the time for him to show out his individuality and lead his group to archive that goal. But this do not means the leader have to follow the principles he believes in from the start until he reach the goals stubborn. In this procedure, the opinions from both agreeable and disagreeable sides should be take into consideration, and if necessary, added to the principles. In the economy realm, for example, the previous leaders are under the conception of maximum income at the lowest cost. But as time and situation is changing, nowadays leaders have to put "environmental harmonious" in to their principle, and which is also become a goal the company leader have to achieve. In that concern, the opinion from popular might change the leader's way of thinking, operating, defining of principles, and the ultimate goal.
However, the leader have to keep balancing between absorbing others' opinions and consistently committing to his own beliefs. Consistently committing to his own will will arouse autocracy and despotism, while quickly and easily influenced by other opinions will lead to the losing of his principle and change the nature of the group he is leading, thus causes the unaccomplishment in his objectives. The two extremeness are both unwarranted, the balance is needed, on the bases that the leaders should on behalf of his people's benefits, and listening to others' useful advices and opinions that may have a good effect on his leadership. And, this is the case in every realm of our life, from political to economy, from education to scientific investigation, the useful opinions and advices can give us a reflection about our activities, and ensure us to perfect our principles and the procedure in achieving our objectives.
From the analysis made above, I hold that in various realms in our life, a consistently committee to principles and objectives in the leader is highly important, but should not be remained fixed and unchangeable. Learn to listening to others will let the leaders have a better understanding in himself, and shit his stubborn improper ideas to a appropriate one.
