Topic:Argument24--
“In order to reduce costs, we should close some of our existing small assembly plants and build a large central plant. Grandview would be an ideal location for this new plant. First, of the locations that we have considered, Grandview has the largest adult population, so that we will be able to staff our plant quickly and easily. Second, since the average wage earned by workers in Grandview is less than that in the other locations, we should be able to keep production costs low. Last, as an inducement for us to build there, Grandview’s town council has offered to allow us to operate for the first three years without paying city taxes.”====================================================================

Grandview would be the best choice for Viva-Tech new plant by its three advantages which is the largest adult population, lower wage of workers than another location and the three years’ free-taxes offered by Grandview town council. However, the three advantages not have such sufficient support to make us do the decision which is build a large central plant in Grandview. There are three reasons for the point of view.

The speaker unfairly assumes that Grandview have the largest adult population that would make us be able to staff our plant quickly and easily. Grandview’s adult mostly have their own works, they cannot come to our plant. Even if Grandview’s people will to work in our plant, they may not feet for the work that Viva-Tech is a high technical factory which need high technical engineer and high-tech workers.

Even if Grandview have low average wage than other location we have consideration, the speaker still unfairly assume that low wage should be able to keep production costs low. Low wages means Grandview have poor transplantation and low-tech equipment of workers. Which is not feet for our plant. We have to put out more money on not only transplantation but also workers train. Including all above that, it may not keep costs low, otherwise, the transportation expense and train costs will make us into more payment than before.

Even if Grandview’s town council have offered us three year’s free-taxes, the consideration of build new plant in there also not unsuitable. Town council would offer us the policy it means there is no or a few number of technical plants in this town that the local government making the policy to appeal high-tech plant to build to the location. Moreover, the town can not provide enough high-tech engineers and worker and we have to train the local adult people. The more cost would decline the profit which saving by three years’ taxes. The policy of free taxes would also appeal other high-tech plant location. When more plant which like us build in the same town it would be more competitive through workers and engineers need. After three years there is no advantage for us.

In sum up, making the consideration of build a new plant in Grandview should be thought all over again. Only based on the three points is not enough, however, it would not reduce costs. In my point of view, Grandview would not be an ideal location for our high-tech medical equipment.
