TOPIC: ARGUMENT14 - The following appeared in a memo from the owner of Green Thumb Gardening Center, a small business serving a suburban town.
"There is evidence that consumers are becoming more and more interested in growing their own vegetables. A national survey conducted last month indicated that many consumers were dissatisfied with the quality of fresh vegetables available in supermarkets. And locally, the gardening magazine Great Gardens has sold out at the Village News stand three months in a row. Thus, we at Green Thumb Gardening Center can increase our profits by greatly expanding the variety of vegetable seeds we stock for gardeners this coming spring."
The memo of owner asserts that the number of consumers who interested in growing their own vegetables is increased, and due to that phenomenon of the company Green Thumb Gardening Center should expanding the kinds of different seeds and stock for gardeners until next spring that can increase our proceeds. However, the speaker has no sufficient information to support his statement. Such as the survey of customers who dissatisfied with the vegetables sale in supermarkets, the data of rising vegetable in people who really own, and even has to offer the reasons why our company can make more earnings from his suggestion.
First of all, the speaker has not point out the research on the decline situation of vegetables in supermarket, but he asserts that clients are not content to the foodstuff sell in stores, just based on one month's survey by a national researcher. It can not be persuasive, because although other countries' public will to obtain the vegetable from villages or cultivate by themselves, it can not account for our country like that as well. Our government has a strictly system to prevent virus from the vegetables retailing in market, so our country have healthy foodstuff to offer to public, people no need to plant it by themselves.
Secondly, although the magazine Great Gardens’ volume in a row in three months, it is unfairly assumes that all purchasers are customers, and even can not indicative of the inclination of the public are interested in cultivation. The magazine selling well in Village News due to other respects, such as the stand will rebuild, so the keeper had to do rummage sale and all magazine and newspaper in there selling well. Perhaps this three months the magazine companies had unfold some preferential activity to increase their selling volume. As a result, the author should offer more evidence about the reasons why this magazine selling well in three months in Village News stand.
Thirdly, even though public really dissatisfied with the supermarket's vegetables and longing to farm it by themselves, it is a assumption that Green Thumb Gardening Center expanding the variety of vegetable seeds that could be gain more profits later. Perhaps there are several gardens in our city, the competition of the planting vegetables is serious, we have to struggle with others and the profits would be decline, even we could be lose money in this business. In addition, the purchasers of our country, their interests would be changed after the seeds of vegetables we have brought into. Most of them are busy to their employment and do their courses or another affair, they have no enough time to do some farming. Although they yearning eat vegetables cultivate by themselves, but they have no choice to select. As a result, if the author could not point out the relevant evidence about the details of the suggestion that expanding seeds could be gain profits, or the business plan could not be into reality.
In sum up, the author has no sufficient to support his statement by the above of three respects, if he could provide such sufficient evidences that about the survey of the variety in buy vegetables in of patron, the details about the increase number in sales volume of the magazine in Villages News and even the information of his suggestion about expanding vegetable seeds. Without confirming all above information, his statement could be more convinced.
