I cannot agree with the speaker's statement that if the target is worthy to do, any means can be adopted, for the opinion is too extreme to be accepted by me. To my viewpoint, how to judge a goal is worthy to do, and how to attain the goal cannot be so random, there should be a prerequisite that corresponds with our social ethics and general values.

To begin with, only the proper goal is what we should devote to. Providing the goal is rebellious with our society at the first step, the following work will be meaningless. For the foothold of the whole work is harmful t society, it won't get the most advocate from people, so its failure is predestined. Such as the Second World War, whose goal is to occupy the whole world for the Axis. Such a war cannot attain the worldwide people's help, so the Axis is defeated at the end of the war. In contrast, those targets which are helpful to the human beings are worthy to do because they are consistent with the human ethics and values. Such as the research of AIDS vaccine, they are important to humans’ survival, so the goal is worthy to invest much money on it. The proper goal is worthy to do and has a higher possibility to success.

However, even a goal is worthy, because the complication of society, people will confront large amounts of obstacles to attain it. So it's not hard to imagine that there will be some irrational and rebellious with our ethics things happen during the process. For example, one state pursues the economic increment partially, so they attract many merchants and build lots of factories in their state. The result is, the local economic develops really, but the environment is pollution by the garbage of such factories, and residents also begin to complain about the state's policy. So the means to attain the goal are full of risk, which may be contrary with social values and ethics.

Furthermore, only that means which correspondents with human beings' ethics and the general values can be rational and worthy to advocate. Everyone is the element of society, so his/her goal may influence others. So when he/she takes means to attain his/her goal, such means will intervene with others' interests. A general principle is not to ruin others' interests when people pursue their own profits. Everyone in the world should not only concern about themselves, but also others. People should know that if they invade others' interests, it may be that such means are contrary with others' values, because every address things in their own values. Adding and abstracting everyone's values is the general values. To those means which conflict with the social ethics, they are usually seen as the unjustifiable behaviors, naturally lacking of soil to grow up. If these means are contrary with people’s values at the same time, there will be more against sound around them. Undoubtedly such means are not worthy to advocate, because they are not justifiable.

All in all, only when the target is rational, and the means to achieve the target are correspond with social ethics and values, we can say these means are justifiable.
Albeit the means to achieve the goal are just a process which can be ignored most of the time, but sometimes the process may generate a huge harm to our society. So we should be prudent with the means to attain the goal, at least ensure they are justifiable without serious aftermath.
