Is loyalty a destructive force rather than a positive one, a virtue? The answer to this question primarily depends on the objects of loyalty. That's to say, loyalty is a virtue, a positive force, applying to the moral and legal areas, contrarily, a destructive one.

Loyalty is a positive force, a virtue when practicing in the moral and legal field. Be loyal to the motherland, namely keeping the national pride, which is the duty to everyone in the country, is the force to make their country prosperous. Similarly, loyalty is the prerequisite for a student to study humbly, the humbleness which is the force to endure the hardships in the way of searching for knowledge. In short, the loyalty is always admirable and forceful positively when in the due extent.

On the other hand, if exercised in improper direction, the force of loyalty is negative even destructive. In a long time of underdeveloped technology, people always attributed the unexplained phenomenon to the gods, thus sun worship, ancestor worship, exorcism and other types of superstitions; misguided loyalties caused the bad impact in individuals and society. What's worse, when the loyalty is exploited by the dictator, the aggression, the slaughter and other series conduct of militarism. Madness about advocating violence and might, stirring up extreme racialism and militarism, and adoring dictator blindly, which are derived from Nazi culture, can be representative of this kind.

Nevertheless, we cannot throw away the apple because of the core. It is terrible to imagine the world without the loyalty, the spouse in suspicion, the employer and employee in mistrust, the citizenry and the government in hostility and so on. Any of these is insufferable and unbearable.

To sum up, when apply loyalty to moral and legal areas, it is a virtue, a positive force. However, when in inappropriate condition, loyalty, a destructive one. Nonetheless, the loyalty is a must. A world without loyalty is doomed to damage, and even destroy.
