TOPIC: ISSUE159 - "The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds."

Is the human superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds, as the speaker asserts? To answer this question it is crucial to define the concept of mind.

If “mind” is meant to mean the ability of thinking, judging, and creating, the human undoubtedly surpass machines in most areas. For instance, when it comes to the realm of art, the creating primarily depends on the aspiration which does not exist in the machine world (at least till now) since machines are non-sense, let alone the aspiration. Nevertheless, we can’t rule out the possibilities that in the future the machines might be superior to human, which is hard to achieve within the limitation of social ethics.

However, if the word “ mind” is defined on efficiency, human are inferior to machines. That’s to say that the car is more intelligent than mankind since it has a higher efficiency in speed; the plane is wiser than men because it is much higher efficiency in speed. If so, the plane must be smarter than the car owing to the higher efficiency in rate, which is obviously ridiculous and unacceptable. Therefore, the definition of mind is somewhat omitting accuracy and apparently the conclusion based on the definition is unwarranted.

Some opponents maybe in the claim that in many fields the machines always perfectly accomplish one work better in less time compared with any person which represents the wisdom over human. However, the opponents have to admit that all the perfect performance are stemming from the series of programming or other electric signal execution, which in turn reveals the human’s intelligence and presents the high efficiency not wisdom. For instance, the example of Dark Blue computer beat the Gary Kasparov mastering in chess to some extent shows the excellence of the inventor of Dark Blue. Besides, considering the machines, no one is able to independently work without human's control and none of them successfully finish creating. In other words, machine lacking of thought never know about the abilities themselves and the fields which they might apply to. After all, how can human admit the superiority of machines which is none of sense without human?

To sum up, the merits of machines just reveal the human’s wisdom and the machines are but rubbish without driving of human. Namely, mankind dominate machines as their tools and human mind always be superior to machines.
