Issue17. "There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."

Law has enforceability in nature, so one cannot disobey it only by his or her subjective judgment.

Even if there are some unjust laws for some people in short term, we also have to obey it, otherwise, law will lost its authority.

Every individual has a responsibility and right to urge legislature to revise the unjust laws. A democratic should protect people the right to express their politic notions.

正文:
The speaker asserts that every individual has a responsibility to disobey and resist unjust laws. In general, I disagree with the speaker's assertion, because the law has authority and enforceability which require individuals must to obey it. In the contrast, individuals' judgments are subjective even conflict with each other's, so we cannot disobey laws based on them.

To begin with, law has enforceability in nature which requires individuals must to obey it. Law represents the interests of all society rather than one individual's. Therefore it is not rare that someone thinks some items of laws are not unjust because these items against his or her interest. However, the judgment is subjective and cannot represent the requirement of society. We can see no further than the principle that one cannot drive after drinking. Someone who addicts alcohol must think it is unjust because smoking is also harmful but laws do not prohibit smoking so why driving after drinking is banned. In this case, if the one disobey laws according to the assertion of speaker and drive after drinking, it is possible that an accident will happen.

What's more, even if the laws have some unjust items in a short term, we should also try our best to urge legislature to revise them. Before they are revised, we should still obey the law in order to maintain the authority of laws. The people who disobey laws will be punished by government even if the laws are unjust. Otherwise, the illegal acts will bring chaos to society. For example, with the development of technology, the cars may have a very high intelligence which can avoid accidents even if the driver is drunken in future. However, before the ban of drunken driving, which is considered as unjust, being canceled, the government fails to punish a person who driver after drinking. Then because everyone is equal before the law and the one disobeys a law yet without being punished by government, so as the others also have the right to avoid punishment for their illegal acts. As a result the authority of laws will lost and the society will have no a common rule for everyone to obey. All society will suffer from failing to punish illegal acts.

Last but not least, democratic political system should give the people the right to express their notions about laws. In a democratic society, laws should have represented and always represent the interests of majority of people. The right of taking participates in the process of legation and revising them can guarantee the laws are considered as just by most of people in the society. American political system is advanced because it provides some many approaches for common people to express their notions.

To sum up, the laws have authority and enforceability in nature which determines that we must obey them. When faced with an unjust law, what we should do is considering that whether our notion can represent the notion of society. If a majority of people in society all think the law is unjust, we should still obey it before it is revised by legislature. What we can do is try our best to express our notions and urge the legislature take measures to revise the unjust law.
