The reading material mentions three reasonsfor why online encyclopedias are inferior to traditional, printed ones. In thelecture, the professor disputes these reasons respectively.

In the first place, the passage states thatthe contributors of an online encyclopedia usually lack the academic backgroundto compose credential entries, so mistakes are normal practices. However, theprofessor points out that traditional encyclopedias are not only can avoidmaking mistakes, but also taking decades to correct them. Even though onlineones would have errors, it just takes relatively short time for a community tocorrect them.

Additionally, the professor refutes thestatement in the passage that people can easily tamper with the online encyclopedia, even if it is correct at the first place. She mentions two strategies to counterthis potential danger: setting crucial fact of the entries to “read only”status and hiring specific people to monitor all the changes. Using thesemethods, online encyclopedia can effectively prevent malicious actions towardit.

Finally, the professor argues that onlineencyclopedias can reflect people’s interest, which challenges the third pointof the passage concerning the problem of contents of the communalencyclopedias. The professor said that traditional encyclopedias have solimited space that it needs compilers to select contents. And in this manner, these encyclopedias cannot truly reflect people’s interests. However, onlineones do not have this drawback; it can accommodate various topics and contents.

In sum, the professor doubts all threereasons the passage provided, and maintains that the communal encyclopediashave advantages that traditional ones do not possess.

In the first place, the passage states that the contributors of an online encyclopedia usually lack the academic back ground to compose credential entries, so mistakes are normal practices. However, the professor points out that traditional encyclopedias can not only avoid making mistakes, but also require decades to correct them.(此处应该用让步状语从句(你本身not only...but also里面的谓语也用错啦),不是递进从句啊..可以考虑改成:However, even though traditional encyclopedias may contain less mistakes, the professor points out that they require more time to be modified.) Even though(呃...才发现这里又有even though,略显重复,despite能加从句么?) online ones would/may have errors, it just takes relatively short time for a community to correct them.

Additionally, the professor refutes the statement in the passage that people can easily tamper with the online encyclopedia, even if it is correct(考虑换个词,accurate/right) at the first place. She mentions two strategies to counter this potential danger: setting crucial fact of the entries to “read only” status and hiring specific people to monitor all the changes. Using these methods, online encyclopedia can effectively prevent malicious actions toward it.

(09.01.23 NA) Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Young people should try several different jobs before they take a long term career.

I completely agree with the statement that young people should take several jobs before they commit to a particular one, because as youth, they may not have a clear thought about their career, and experiences from various specialities can beneficial their career lives.

Admittedly, devoting to one job from the beginning have certain advantages, such as matering special knowledge quickly, maintaining a stable social network, and even getting a promotion fast. However, there are inevitable drawbacks we can never ignore.

In the first place, experience from various jobs may shape a wonderful career. For instance, working as a reporter can give an excellent chance to take to different people, therefore one would gain communication skills; experience from teaching could give one valuable experience about how to present an idea transparently and convincingly. All these experiences would assist one who want to be a marketing manager. Therefore, taking different jobs could give one precious experence that can greatly benefit one’s future career.

In addition, nowadays we live in a world which provides enormous opportunities. When someone graduates for department of electronic engeneering, he can choose to be a engeneer of course, or attend a web design company. Chooses are available. However, there is a question that which job should be the one that we can devote a life in it. Hard to say, especially for younth. Since they are just stepping into the society, maybe they have clear thoughts once then, but when they try jobs, which they were longing for, they would feel disappointed. That is the gap between the ideal and reality. Thus, only through trying several jobs can a person find one that truly suits him.

In sum, experience acquired from different jobs can give a young people an invaluable lesson for future career. And choose about career is diffcult to make, it is desirable to taste various ones and finally find one that can be devoted to it in a life time.
