Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Students should not take part-time jobs while they are studying in universities.
When it comes to student, people always consider that their most crucial task is to study well. And someone may also argue that anything besides study is a waste of time and will have no benefits at all for the students. However, in terms of students in universities, things should be a little different. As is known to all, in universities, the miniature of the real society, students should not only learn knowledge but also living skills, social ability and find their main direction in the future.
Inevitably, part-time jobs will take up some time to distract the students from studying, however, as long as the jobs won't make huge effects on their final performance, the jobs’ advantages far outweigh disadvantages.
First of all, to take part-time jobs can help students to meet more people and gain extra experience out of books. As we all know, compared with the real society, the school is still so pure and the relationships between the students or people they meet are much simpler. Normally, a student who are really smart with excellent grade or who is very socialized and well-tempered can easily obtain great reputation. However, the society is not that easy. When the students take a job, the relationships get complicated. They have to learn how to deal with their superior but also handle the relationship with people on the same level, who are the rivals at the same time. They need to learn how to stand out without being hated. The experience has no substitute from what they can learn from the college.
What's more, the part-time jobs can help a student to explore his or her real interest and find the path of future finally. I know many students who are not satisfied with their own majors, myself included, too. And unfortunately, in China, we can not change our major freely in college. Therefore, instead of torching ourselves to learn something we have no interest at all, we decide to discover our talent in some other fields, so we try various part-time jobs. Like me, I have tried to be a family teacher, sale-person, programmer and organizer for several companies' events. And during the time I was doing my part-time jobs , I had been taking effort to connect them with my major to see if I can discover some new field that was relevant to my major so that I won't waste the knowledge in university as well, and fortunately I succeed. Basing on my experience of family teacher and organizer, I found a perfect job for myself which is also relevant to my major.
In a word, part-time jobs may take up our study time a bit, but it totally worth it, because it provide us vast opportunities to know the society better and to explore our specil talent. |
