In this newsletter, it is believed that the antibiotics can cure the secondary infections of the muscle strained patients. I think it partially obscure the collaboration between facts, study, and conclusion. So this argument is vulnerable as discussed below.

Since the author can draw such a conclusion, there must have some premise that the muscle strained patients have the chance to get secondary infections. However, no information is provided to prove this proposal. Even the essential prerequisites are invalid, let alone the conclusion.

There are several grounds in this argument should be clarified:
To make a comparison between two groups of samples on the impact of a single factor on the outcome of the experiment, one should make every other condition equal to eliminate the all other possibility so that a clear and unambiguous conclusion could be draw from the different outcome of the two experiment groups. In this statement, the study of two groups of patients is not scientific for its insufficient information of those patients. In other words, it doesn’t give us the demographic make-up and selection of the criteria of the patients such as physical statement, the history of some certain diseases, gender, age, and nationality etc. There is well possible that the patients in the first group have better physique originally, and even some people are sensitive to the antibiotics, both of them could point to the inaccurate results of this study.

Moreover, two doctors specialize in different fields could also be the variables in this study. Dr. Newland, a doctor who specializes in sports medicine, could be more familiar with the treatment of muscle strained cases. It is easier and more specialized for Dr. Newland to take care of the patients in the first group. However, Dr. Alton, a general physician, who may be not as specialized as Dr. Newland, tends to have a limited effectiveness.

Third, no scientific statistic proves that the sugar pills have no effect on cures of patients. There is well possibility that sugar pills could cause negative effects on muscle strained patients, so patients in the second group still have a long recuperation time.

The conclusion of this argument is too hasty that all muscle strained patients should take antibiotics to prevent the secondary infection. More statistics and improvements should be made to the approach of study.
