Do the governments should place more emphasis on immediate problems rather than solving anticipated problems in the future? The author claims so. The survival problems contribute to the major part of social problems today, thus the maximized choice to assign limited money and energy is focus on the pressing problems happening today. However, we must not ignore the problems might happen in the foreseeable future, for prosper our next generation and continuing the development of the whole human society.
I concede that the priority to immediate problems is an indispensable decision made by government under the pressure of survival problems. Suffering from fatigue, hunger, lacking necessaries, no one would care about future problems like prosperity of society or development of science. Under such circumstances, the most wisdom alternative for a nation with limited resources may be to provide enough supplements and ensure people of better living condition. What’s more, even survival problems having been solved, there exists a myriad of pressing social problems-whether it is property rights, human rights, corruption, or international affairs, to be solved.
However, only placing attention to immediate problems can not suffice a prosperous nation in a long run. Never a government can ensure survivals of all the people in its country, thus when is the proper time for government to start focusing on solving the problems might happen in the future? Hilacritus, one of the most famous Greek philosophers, who claimed that it was Logos being central of the universe, created essence of everything. Never a man at that time regarded it a solution to immediate social problems, while his next generation established their own doctrines based on that theory of Hilacritus, since it was the principle of Hilacritus reminded people to be aware of the essence of universe.
It is worthwhile for governments to focus on future problems to prosper development of human beings in a long term. Common sense tells me that to solve the anticipated problems of the future can make profits as reward in return, which has the most lasting significance to influence more people who belong to a later time. After all, we can not terminate our next generation’s life by ignoring the side effect of wasting or exhausting resources today. What’s more, more concerning about future living condition can restrict some unreasonable undue short-sighted action such as disafforestation that may result in cureless disaster in the future.
Simply put, concerning the limited resources and time, it is reasonable to prevail prior to immediate problems today, while focusing on the problems might happen in the future is also worthy. Otherwise, undue action on the intention of solving present problems may exhaust the resource on which next generations based and lead to unexpected tragedy.
