Issue104.
It is primarily through formal education that a culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears.
I fundamentally agree with the statement that a culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears, however the formal education is one of the lots methods, neither the only one nor the important one.
Not only one culture but also other things have the tend to protect and develop the ideas they favors, while object even destroy the ideas they fears in order to keep themselves in the better conditions, though sometimes they are not willing to admitted the fact. The common senses tell us the reason why they fell fears largely is that they worry about it will affect or harm to the development of theirs, so by instinct they will take measures before the bad influence coming out, and the usual steps are objecting and discrediting. At the same time, they will try to boom what they favors and largen their influence, which will make what they fears more hard to survive in this circumstances. It cannot be censured the a culture tries to do that.
Every road leads to Rome. Similarly, a culture achieves its goal through various ways, such as the laws, the government, the tradition, ceremonies, and the formal education is only one of them.
At first, it must know what we gain from the formal education and what the most important goal of the formal education. In childhood, through the formal education we learn the basic knowledge, the math, the physical, the history, and so on. Admittedly, a part of the knowledge is influenced by the culture; for example, in the different culture atmosphere the heroes in the history book are different in the same historical events. In one country, he maybe regarded as a great hero who saved many people's lives, in the contrary country; people look his as a betrayer or a failure, especially in the wartime. From the instance, it is easy to understand that the formal education is one of way that the culture try to protect what it favors and objects what it fears. But when we grow up and enter the college or university, the education aim at not only telling the student the thing, but also teaching them how to realize and analyze the thing in their own spectrums. At that time, maybe the students will try to touch and speculate what the culture fears, then the effect of the culture is decreasing.
Moreover, the formal education is effected by many factors, such as the government and the law, the economy, etc. The government and the law have the power and right to limit the education system and form, the education books; and the economy level largely determines the number of students who can accept the education. It is incredibly that the formal education develops well and many people can gain the better high education in a poor country, which economy level is very low and the people are striving for the basic living necessary.
From the above paragraph discussed, the government and the law is another powerful hand that helps culture keep what it favors and object what it fears. Dissimilarly the formal education, it is the compulsive method to accomplish the task. It makes the detail and clear files and documents to illustrate us what is favor and what is inhibition. If anyone or organization that want to advocate the inhibition will be punished, while if support the favor will be praised. Through the government and the law's protect, the culture can prosper well.
Lastly, there are still many other ways that the culture used to perpetuate what it favors and discredit what it fears. The tradition, which is handed down from one generation to another generation, demonstrates the influence on the culture. It same to the ceremonies, it still shows how the culture to thrive what it favors and object what it fears.
In conclusion, culture tries to perpetuate the ideas it favors and discredit the ideas it fears through various methods and the formal education is one of it. |
