issue68 题号吉利,就忍不住写了^_^
题目:people make the mistake of treating experts with suspicion and mistrust, no matter how valuable their contributions might be.
----------------------------------------------
看完题目之后我的思路:首先是people的定义:
<ordinary men and women:
the general population, as distinct from the government or higher social classes >
1)针对第一句话, it is natural that people make the mistake of treating experts with suspicion and mistrust since in the beginning, many creations or new theories made by experts seemed strange to the ordinary people(according to the definition given above)
2) On the other hand, experts might be mistrusted by people deliberately under some circumstances.
For example, the Copernicus……and Bruno…..these are all because the pressure of church or people’s rooted conventional thoughts.
3) However, after long duration trial in the history, many experts were respected by people because their invention were viable in the practice and brought great beneficence to people!
4) Further more, some experts’ work in the history indeed extremely undermined people’ lives and incurred people’s disgust. For example, the expert supporting Hitler in the World War Two, (he made dynamite for German troops which made them hold their ground possible for long possible)
----zehua passage---
Why do people make the mistake of mistrusting experts, even if they have great contributions? In my view, experts are the major force for science and technology advances. Yet they are human beings who make mistakes from time to time, which lead to people's mistrust. In addition, almost every scientific advancement is accompanied by question of authority.
It is commonly accepted that experts are the most important force that make science and technology advances. Experts as specialists, major in a certain sophisticated academic area for years and even throughout their lifetime. Newton studied classical physics for over sixty years; Darwin turned to biology from 21 years old until he died; Paulin began to major in chemistry since he entered college.(你通过这几个例子向论证什么观点?? 再者也应该指出Newton, Paulin, Darwin具体有那些contribution呀!如果我没猜错得话, 你的本意是和我的观点的1同,right?可能有误解,待讨论) While science is the horse of a carriage, experts are coachmen urging the horse on. Obviously, if we choose not to trust those experts specialized in a certain area, does it mean that we should trust an innocent baby instead? Therefore, experts' ideas are most valuable and trustable. It is people's mistake not to trust them.(有点太绝对了!)
However, the foci would be too narrow if we over-emphasize on the experts' contributions or even apotheosize them as deity beings, while failing to realize that experts and authorities could make mistakes from time to time(建议改为: sometimes, it was the experts’ intrinsic mistakes that incurred people’s suspicion and mistrust 这样会使你的论述更清晰!^_^个人见解). As human beings, no one could state that he never makes a mistake, as is true for experts. Moreover, although authorities are masters of a certain research area, there are still problems that they cannot solve, and possibly some misperceptions in their field of study. Aristotle asserted that heavier things would drop faster that(than---建议语法错误一定要自己排除) lighter things; Newton believed that physical energy are continuous (in micro-world---偶在量子力学课上听得), not quantitative. Either of these scientists was later proved wrong. This is because anyone's observation of the world is limited. Besides, from the psychologists’ point of view, most people would easily find evidence favoring their theory, while ignoring traits that disapprove their thoughts and beliefs. While experts are coachmen urging the horse of a carriage on, obviously they would sometimes be misdirected by mist of nature. Thus we should understand that no one' words could always be right, even if they are experts.
In addition, it is always question of authority that leads to great scientific advancements in history.(这一点我的确没有想到!值得借鉴!呵呵!) Darwin (as a novice in that area) wondered whether human beings were made by God, and then published the evolutionary theory; Copernicus (in the beginning) questioned if the earth was the center of the universe, and then stated the sun center theory. (这里之所以要加括号里的, 是想与题目一致.---people)Had they trusted every word of authority, they would not have made such great discoveries, since no experts are deity. Yet this does not mean that they do not deserve respect. On contrary, they are a most respectful group of people because they have made the world a better and more comfortable place to live in(全文中针对命题后半句的只这一句话, 建议另启一段. 不过时间不够就算了!).
In the final analysis, the speaker's assertion is partly true. It is people's mistake not to trust experts all the time. However, we should understand that even experts could possibly make mistakes and they should not be idolized as deity. We must accept their view with thinking and caution. Yet experts are one of the most respectful groups of people in the world. |
