The speaker asserts that the true strength of a country is best demonstrated by the willingness of its government to tolerate challenges from its own citizens. I totally agree with the speaker's assertion because a government that is willing to follow the advice of all its citizens can make great improvement and raise its strength.

Admittedly, the challenges come out when people are engaged in the special condition. As we all know that when legislators make regulations in some realms, they first get to know the actual conditions faced by the people who are engaged in the condition. For example, if a government is making a regulation on the public health preventing system, the legislators should know information about the epidemic diseases and the hospitals' conditions. SARS attack broke out in China in 2003 and caused a number of people dead in the disease. And some professors gave advice to the government that the public health preventing system had many flaws and needed improvements as soon as possible,which was a great challenge to the Chinese government. Finally, the government followed the professors' advice and prevent masses of people from being attacked by SARS. The most important thing is that if there is a similar disease like SARS breaking out in China, the government can take efficient measures to save its people.

Needless to say, the willingness reflects the government's attitude toward its people. If the government is pleased to accept the advice and challenges, we can see that it's a democratic government because it admires each citizen's opinion. Maybe some ideas seem convincing at the first glance but finally prove to be unsubstantiated, but the government really take into account these factors. For example, the EURO constitutions are restricted in France and Holland by nationwide voting in the two countries recently. This indicates that the government wants its citizens to make a decision on the further development of the country. As a result, the willingness reflects the government's attitude toward its citizens.

Markedly, the country can improve itself by dealing with the challenges and solving the problems. Because the challenges are all from those people who care much about the future of the country and have a global perspective of the world. The challenges may be involved in politics, economics, public health and so the forth. And the people who give advice find some flaws generating numerous problems in the realms. So the government can better benefit its people through the measures.

In sum, I totally agree with the speaker's assertion that the true strength of a country is demonstrated by the willingness of its government to tolerate challenges from its citizens, because if the country follow the proper advices from its citizens, the government not only solves its problems but also admires its people so as to strengthen its control over the country.
