The new vise president of Sartorian does notseem considerable enough to the problem whether they should resume manufacturing the deluxe alpaca overcoats. He reasoned that since the production have stopped for 5 years and their major competitor no long produce it, they will have a lot of pent-up customers. Moreover, along with the rise of the price of most types of clothing, the price of their production should rise too, in that way, they will make a nice profit. However, things might not go as the vise president expected.

Considering the first assumption the president offers, a long stop of production do not necessary form a crowd of pent-up customers. People are easy to forget, as the industry of clothing developed so rapidly, their hunger for a special kind of clothing can easily be replaced by another. Even the most fashionable clothing might be totally out of date after a period of five years. And the major competitor’ halt of production is most probably caused by a decline of demand of the market. Before Sartorian make a decision, a detailed investigation of the market is needed, and they have to make out why the major competitor no long produces it.

The vise president’s next argument is that since the price of most types of clothing have been rising in the past five years, they may also raise up their prices, and consequently make a extra profit. The president just simplify the case, he did not consider other important factors that would influence the profits of their product, for example, the price of the raw material might also go up with the product, and if the standard of living of the whole society rises, the wages they pay for the workers may also rise to a, at least, average level, and the fees for electricity and water should also take into account, meanwhile the tax for sales and manufactures may rise as well. If all the factors listed above are added up to the cost, the profit of the products might work out to be appointing.

To sum up, the vise president has not got enough evidences to support his proposal to resume production of the deluxe alpaca overcoats. They had to do further investigations to the market to make sure whether their products will be still welcomed after five-year’s time. And will whether they can make a good profit through the resume.
