------正文------
Does critical judgment of work in any given field have little value unless it comes from someone who is an expert in that field? In my point of view, to some extent, it is true. However, the opinions coming from the non-experts would be helpful for us.
In the first place, we have to concede that critical views from the experts can often hit the nail on the head. On one hand, experts have deep insight for the field they study in and accumulate so much related knowledge that could help us find the key point of the problems or pick up our fatal errors. On the other hand, since every field has its specific approaches and unique rules in research, the experts would have done a great deal work to go into the world of the field. For example, a mathematician should not only learn those fundamental calculated skills but also the other intricate theories for deduction and induction. Furthermore, they have to analyze and calculate a host of data to prove a formula or the conclusion they put forward. In this respect, outsiders could have little opportunity to make some valuable critical judgment without special knowledge. Since the experts would have more profound understanding than the outsiders in the field they work at, we would place more reliance on them. That is the reason why critical judgment from the experts would seem to be important for us.
However, in the social realm, sometimes the opinions raised by the people who have a lot of experience would serve as reference. For example, the experts would know clearly that how to design a powerful motorcar, but in manufacture, the skilled workers on the assembling line would tell us how to install the wheel onto the axle. The experience coming from the practice would give us the most valuable first-hand information. If the workers complain about the low efficiency of some machines, the experts would keep their eye on the problems and examine their design to find out what's wrong.
Besides, those people who could be considered as users would also bring us some useful information. It is often the users who would find some flaws in the design. For example, the experts in the Intel Corp. design the Central Process Unit of PIII 1.13G Hz. But after they put the products into the market, the users claims that the new CPUs could not run stably on the frequency of 1.13G Hz . Although the experts make their efforts in elaborate design, they may sometimes overlook those minute problems that would found in use. Thus, listening to the feedback of the users who is not professional in the field would be indispensable.
Furthermore, those people who have little recognition on the concerning field would bring many fresh perspectives into the traditional disciplines. For example, Especially in the artistic realm, since art is a way that depicts the world around us and express the feeling of ourselves, one would have his/her own view when appreciating a work of art based on his/her experience, but we could hardly say it is just an expert who could understand the main ideas embedded in it. A seemingly ordinary and irrelevant suggestion could even give the inspiration to the artists.
To sum up, we would make much of the critical judgment from an expert because of his/her profound understanding of the field. However, we could not overlook the voices from the outsiders for they would inspire some new ideas or help us to improve our work.
