Honesty has been concerned as a kind of virtue from ancient era to modern era. Some people believe that political leader should tell the truth all the time; they argue that it is the premise to take responsibility to public. While other people believe that honesty is not very useful to political leaders, because the society is too complicate to be honesty. As far as I am concerned, in some situation complete honesty is not a useful virtue for a politician, while most cases political leaders should be honest to public.

As a significant virtue of human being, honesty is a necessary quality to be as a politician. With the virtue of honesty, politician could get the trust from public, which is the premise to be an efficient leader. It is incredible that a politician can be responsible for government without honesty. For instance, lots of politicians who lied to public lost their trust from public and then failed in election to be as a president in the United States. Furthermore, the virtue of honesty could help political leaders having an efficient lead. At the beginning of the epidemic caused by pig to man infection in July 2005, the officers publicized the epidemic situation to people all over the country, while calling on public paying more attention to such disease. Informed by the notice, public were more alert to buy pork in market and the farmers slaughtered those pigs in sick. With the potential dangerous undermining, now the epidemic is controlled by government only in one month. Without telling the truth to public, there should be lots of unknowing people eat disease pork and the country will be plunged into panic.

However, without honesty, politicians could make disasters to society, in some sense, more serious than epidemic. Lots of officers use their rules to meet their own interests. Some of them peculated money from government to gambling. It is estimated that the money peculated by officers in gamble nearly to 30 billion per year in China. What we should pay attention to is that the average incoming per peasants is 300 $. Some of officers misconstrued laws to help their relatives to get profits. And some of them used their rules to attend smuggle. What they did seriously do harm to the public. In such current continuing, it is out of question that the public will lose their faith to government. In a foreseeable future, those leaders and government will be in their ending from leadership. In other words, therefore, without honesty any government cannot maintain their rules in a society.

But in some cases, complete honesty is not a useful virtue for a politician. Especially when some secretes related to the security and interests of a country or the security of personal life. Some secretes must be kept by politicians in case of their falling in to the wrong hands. How to make an A-bomb is such a secret never can be told by officers, because it has strong relationship with the public security all over the world. If it was fell into the hand of terrorism, then all lives in the world could be destroyed by those extremists. Some privacy should not be telling into truth. On the one hand, it may threaten the security of those leaders by their opponents. On the other hand, some privacy will used by propaganda to make scandals and undermine the leadership of politicians.

In sum, though sometimes our officers should not tell the true being the need of security of public or something else, most of time and cases, they should be honesty and it is the premise of being an efficient leader.
