issue52 Education encourages students to question and criticize, and therefore does little to promote social harmony.

Education has now been playing an ever increasingly important role in people’s life, equipping us with the knowledge and skills needed in our later life. While it encourages students to question and criticize, I disagree with the statement that education does little to promote social harmony.

One of the most crucial factors leading to social discordance is isolation in ideas and values of students. To best prepare themselves for the rapidly changing and complex job market, students, eastern and western, are enthusiastically absorbing knowledge of various kind, together with skills required to handle diverse problems. As a large proportion of time and energy is devoted to acquiring facts and solving problems, much less focus do students give on individual ideas, principles, and values. As a consequence, when students graduate from school and enter the society, they might share nothing in common but knowledge in words and figures, which place potential threats to social harmony. Take Americans for example. Although they reap the benefit of approximately the same education in schools, colleges and universities across the nation, there still exists controversy on issues like death sentences and abortions. If no accordance in attitudes and positions can be attained, however, newspapers and television program will continue to report debates, protests, and extreme behaviors.

It is fortunate that our education has already recognized itself in a situation as such, and more attention is now put upon the understanding of each other-----through questioning and criticizing. The stereotyped education conceptualized as teachers pouring information at one end and students memorizing facts at the other end has been abandoned. Instead, current education encourages students to question and criticize. Teachers in my university, for example, always welcome students to point out their mistakes and drawbacks, contrasting sharply from those refusing to admit their mistakes several decades ago. On the other hand, students are consistently told that they should hold moderate skepticism on everything they learn from textbooks. However, knowledge is far from being the only thing that a student is encouraged to question: significant attention of students now shifts to ideas and values of people, whose experience, educational back grounds, thinking styles differ from theirs. To question is to find out differences; to criticize is to accept, or tolerate, contradicting yet reasonable ideas. As a result, although problems, religious or cultural, may be nonetheless left to socialists, reformers, or politicians, our educated populace are more open and tolerant on these issues than ever before, thus social harmony is promoted.

What is more, cooperation, highly priced by our modern education, further promotes social harmony. Today, educators have realized that students working in groups may gradually acquire ability of effective communications with others, as well as willingness of conditional sacrifice for the greater good of all. At the same time, more and more projects and researches that call for collaborative efforts are already included in instruction syllabus. Endowing students with advantages for intrapersonal relationships, education enables students to later act properly in the cooperative world. Education thus contributes to social accordance by minimizing possible individual inadaptability in groups beforehand.

In conclusion, education is actually conducive to social harmony, for it encourages students to question and criticize, and to work with others as well. While the former contributes to tolerance of different ideas and values, the latter prepares students better adapt collaborative society in advance.

To best prepare themselves for the rapidly changing and complex job market, students, eastern and western, are enthusiastically absorbing knowledge of various kinds, together with skills required to handle diverse problems. As a large proportion of time and energy is devoted to acquiring facts and solving problems, much less focus do students give on individual ideas, principles, and values你的意思是说冲突来自这些?. As a consequence, when students graduate from school and enter the society, they might share nothing in common but knowledge in words and figures, which place potential threats to (on?) social harmony. Take Americans for example. Although they reap the benefit of approximately the same education in schools, colleges and universities across the nation, there still exists controversy (你能说这是教育encourage的?) on issues like death sentences and abortions. If no accordance in attitudes and positions can be attained, however, newspapers and television program will continue to report debates, protests, and extreme behaviors.

It is fortunate that our education has already recognized itself in a situation as such没懂, and more attention is now put upon the understanding of each other-----through questioning and criticizing. The stereotyped (traditional或typical?) education conceptualized as (in which?) teachers pouring information at one end and students memorizing facts at the other end has been abandoned. Instead, current education encourages students to question and criticize. Teachers in my university, for example, always welcome students to point out their mistakes and drawbacks, contrasting sharply from those refusing to admit their mistakes several decades ago这种情况永远都会存在!. As a result, although problems, religious or cultural, may be nonetheless left to socialists, reformers, or politicians, our educated populace are more open and tolerant on these issues than ever before, thus social harmony is promoted.

What is more, cooperation, highly priced by our modern education, further promotes social harmony. cooperation 是question和criticize给的? Today, educators have realized that students working in groups may gradually acquire ability of effective communications with others, as well as willingness of conditional sacrifice for the greater good of all.

Goodall's mother once told her:
"Jane, if you really want to do something, you work hard, you stick to it until there's an opportunity."

3b3的Ts写cooperation is highly priced by modern educaion
