Do all fields of studies cannot make significant progress without experience and knowledge from other fields, as the speaker asserts? In my view though there seems to be a certain exceptions, when it comes to the such direction as music and painting, I fundamentally agree with the notion that broad communications are needed for the advance of study.

Admittedly, in some cases of studies, advancements are achieved by dedicated delving into the literature and datum—which normally have nothing to do with outside knowledge—in the very fields. Such cases are prevalent in the fields of arts. Consider, for instance, when we look back at the lasting history of music and painting(To dig up the evidences we only have to open any archive of history), we can easily figure out that both of them were free from outer studies, to some degree at least. However, in most fields of human endeavors especially science research and the origin and development of corss-subjects, the fact that outsider’s knowledge, experience or technologies play an crucial role is indisputable.

In one sense, there appeared to be significant advances directly result from breakthrough of other fields. My understanding is that theoretic and technological limitation from other fields usually happen to the bottle-neck of the development of a subject and, in turn, just because of the close relationship between various of fields, we are likely to turn to outer studies to find a way out of dilemma we facing us. One apt illustration is the Electronic Logistic Management(ELM) whose key activities is modern transportation and inventory management. Compared to traditional logistic management which depends on paper-base operation and is extremely effectless, ELM uses computer-base information system to reengineer the procession and company structure, and hence revolutionarily improve the overall efficient and effort of the supply chain. The vital difference between ELM and traditional logistic management is the way the information be collected and transmitted. Without knowledge and experience from computer science there would be no ELM, which outstandingly balance the information share between suppliers and customers and therefore reduce the so-call bullwhip effect in a great scale.

In another sense, most basic-discipline--such as academic physics and academic economics--need methods and lore from relative studies. For example, Einstein’s theory of relativity was published in the year Nineteen-five, while in fact the idea bred much earlier than this in that the lack of appropriate mathematic tools to describe the theory. In the meantime, today’s economic researches are close relative to mathematic to. Calculus and statistics are universally used and have been considered the most powerful tool here—from cost-benefit analysis and demand forecasting to the calculation of deficit and GDP. As the case stands, mathematic has made extraordinary contributions in the development of economics. Recent years’ Economic Noble Price winners’ researches almost are perfect combination of economics and mathematics, which are convincing demonstration of the undeniable role of mathematics in economic research.  

In conclusion, any field of study is coexist with and more of less relative to others. Thus the statement is correct in this respect. Although there really seems to be several exception, the majority of fields does require or even depend on other close relative subjects to seek their development.

我觉得admittedly那一段应该放到到数第二段论述，符合美国人习惯。
爱因斯坦那个例子有点偏差，文中讨论的显然是广义相对论（狭义相对论的数学描述大一的学生都会，爱因斯坦的数学水平已经达到一般数学学者的水平了，不存在任何困难。），但是广义相对论是1915年，狭义相对论才是1905年。
