题目:ARGUMENT 145 - A new study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than are people who do not snore. It is well known that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, a condition called sleep apnea. The interruption of breathing wakes the person-often so briefly that the waking goes unnoticed-and can leave the person too tired during the day to exercise. Anyone who snores, therefore, should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise more.

In this argument, the speaker tries to convince us that snorers should try to eat less and to exercise more. Although is seems reasonable at the first glance, a careful scrutiny reveals that the reasoning suffers from several critical flaws, which undermine the validity of this argument.

To begin with, the reliability of the study that the speaker cited is open to doubt. The speaker has not provided us any information about how many people are involved in this study; the demographical data of these participators such as sex, age, etc.; the health condition; and whether these people are equally divided into two groups. It is quite possible that the total number of participators might be too small to represent the whole population, and the two groups are incomparable for the reason that people with different sexes, ages, and health conditions are not equally distributed. Unless the speaker rules out these possibilities, any result generated from the study would be unconvincing.

Moreover, even if the implication that snorers are more likely to gain weight than non-snorers from the study is credible, the causal relationship between snoring and gaining weight is unwarranted. Perhaps other reasons would result in weight gaining. For instance, snorers who gains weight might like eating food containing high fat. It is their diet not the snore that causes their weight gaining. It is equally possible that these non-snorers might have other diseases which prevent them from becoming fat. If the speaker cannot prove the cause and effect correlation between snoring and gaining weight, any suggest from this argument would not be taken seriously.

In addition, the speaker mistakenly assumes that people don't do exercise because of tiredness. Although apnea may make the snorers feel tired the next day, it does not imply that they don't do exercises. Empirical experience tells that doing exercise might be the most effective way for some people to wipe out their fatigue. Walking, jogging and bicycling would offer people a sense of refreshment.

Last but not least, the suggestion given by the speaker is self-controversial. We take for granted that more energy is needed for more exercises, and energy mainly comes from the amount of food we taken. If people do more exercises but eat less at the same time, they would suffer from lack of nutrition and calorie; consequently harm their health.

In sum, the argument is unpersuasive according to the flaws mentioned above.

In this argument, the speaker tries to convince us that snorers should try to eat less and to exercise more. Although is seems reasonable at the first glance, a careful scrutiny reveals that the reasoning suffers from several critical flaws, which undermine the validity of this argument.[简直是我的作文啊!!!]

To begin with, the reliability of the study that the speaker cited is open to doubt. The speaker has not provided [一般现在时就行了]us any information about how many people are involved in this study; the demographical data of these participators such as sex, age, etc.; the health condition; and [whether these people are equally divided into two groups.原文没说两组] It is quite possible that the total number of participators might be too small to represent the whole population, and the two groups are incomparable for the reason that people with different sexes, ages, and health conditions are not equally distributed. Unless the speaker rules out these possibilities, any result generated from the study would be unconvincing.[比较泛,容易被怀疑模板。结合这个案例来套]

If the speaker cannot prove the cause and effect correlation between snoring and gaining weight, any suggest from this argument would not be taken seriously.[可以放到上一段置疑代表性]

Walking, jogging and bicycling would offer people a sense of refreshment.[。。。我最后打算放弃这段内容了,而专门批运动对他们是否有益]

Last but not least, the suggestion given by the speaker is self-controversial. We take for granted that more energy is needed for more exercises, and energy mainly comes from the amount of food we taken. If people do more exercises but eat less at the same time, they would suffer from lack of nutrition and calorie; consequently harm their health.[有点儿歪了,作者说少吃我理解是避免从吃上进一步加重发胖,和运动无关。]

In sum, the argument is unpersuasive according to the flaws mentioned above.[对study过于纠缠了,完全可以少用几句话,把第二段合并进去,最后一定要攻击吃和体重的问题]
