With the introduction of video camera, it does provide people a more form of documentation. The video camera can record the life accurately and convincingly to some extent that written records cannot reach, but it is difficult to assert which is more important because each one has advantages and disadvantages, and they can be complemented each other to make records more efficient. Following will compare the video camera record way with the written record way and give out supports to my opinion.

On the one hand, video camera, as a high-tech production, has many merits. Firstly, it is easy to operate. Every one, intellectual or illiteracy, after short training, all can use it skillful because it has simple operation interface and the only thing needs to do is to press a few of buttons. But written records need relatively high literacy level, otherwise, the records will be hard to be understood and has little use. Secondly, video records can be very vivid and easy to be comprehended. With the lively images, video records can recurrent the scenes, such as a festal party, a great surprise case, a distressful battle life, and the like. If using written records, it will need people's imagination, which is difficult to recurrent. Thirdly, video records can be highly accurate which will not be influenced by human's feeling. As we all know, when people describe something, it is common to add his opinions or ideas into the written records, which possibly result in the warp from truth. Consequently, in the above facets, video camera does better that written records.

On another hand, writing has some superiorities that video camera does not have. Written records can express people's feeling and ideas exquisitely, while camera cannot do; written records can write down the cases with great spatio-temporal span in comparatively a few sentences, while camera will have to employ many tapes; written records can show exactly the contract, legal items, data and etc, but camera record feels weak to do this kind of things. For example, we cannot image to sign a contract by camera record, and in this case, we can only depend on written records. For another instance, when we need to say that there are 1000 people, can we give the 1000 people each an image? Certainly, it is inefficient and unpractical. On the contrary, we only need to write down a sentence. From above, we can see that writing is prior to camera to a certain extent.

To sum up, video camera and writing are equally important to record the life, and each one cannot thoroughly replace the other one to be the only record method. In fact, they should cooperate to make the records more efficient, more accurate, and more vivid.
