TOPIC:ISSUE 196 - "Technology creates more problems than it solves, and may threaten or damage the quality of life."
WORDS:597 TIME:上午 12:39:15 DATE:2006-3-13
Does technology create more problems than it solves, and may threaten or damage the quality of life, as the view of the speaker? In my observance, the technology indeed brings (inevitably evoke many problems harming human life) about more problems threatening and damaging human life, when it solves some persistent ones disturbed and harassed human beings. On balance, however, I fundamentally disagree with the speaker's contention. In actual fact, some problems, which results from the way how to human utilize the technology, can not be addressed only by advanced technology.
To begin with, the threshold reason why I tend to favor the statement of the speaker is that in recent decades with the technology keeping on rapidly developing without any cessation, more and more questions and issues are incited and generated by the technology, some of which may intimate or decrease the quality of people's life. Consider, for example, the clone technology in medical field. When the first clone sheep born, humans were astonished and full of excitement. They believe that there will be a new revolution and our lives having a new perspective, for the reason that the magic power of the clone. Suppose that we can cure some diseases which can not do in normal methods, we can prolong our lives and we can enjoy more fun. However, at the beginning, the clone had been hotly debated and rigidly rejected by many countries, especially those advanced ones. Since it seems can not be compatible with morality, cautious man will find that many problems will be threaten humans according to the application of the clone. Other technologies, such as advanced chemistry technology and unclear technology, also bring about many problems to us.
Admittedly, those inherent or explicit problems, sometimes, are happened as the novel technology applies to our society. Yet, almost all of the issues can not be mitigated only resorting to the technology, but relying on people, who use and benefit from them. As a matter of fact, whether those problems may threaten the quality of life or damage the ethic of people, all of which are stemmed from the manner of humans. There is an example can illustrated the opinion above: in the era of rapidly developing in computer and internet technology, it is certain that some issues are generated. Due to the fact that the laws and regulations always lag behind the new field, some people put to use the computer and internet to illegal get some valuable information even privacy. Albeit, we can not blame on the internet supplying a good method to aid people doing illegal things in that it is not the original aim of the computer and the internet.
What's more, as novel discoveries and advanced technologies are continuously invented and used in human and society, they seem like fresh air blowing in our stable lives and society, solve many persistent problems and increase the quality of life. The computer and the internet technology help people to easily study the aboard course and retrieve the diverse information. New medical technologies treat diseases once influential harassed people and improve the health of people. Advanced agricultural technology can solve famine which disturb and hamper many developing countries. In fact, I can hardly demonstrate all the problems solved by technologies. Everyone see and experience those happened.
To sum up, from the analysis and the relevant examples, we can safety draw a conclusion that although the technology creates many problems and will spoil our life, some of those problems are sprout up from ourselves. We can not deny that the technology increase the quality of life, better our society and mitigate some problems not solved before. |
