NO.3 behaviors
210 "Most people choose a career on the basis of such pragmatic considerations as the needs of the economy, the relative ease of finding a job, and the salary they can expect to make. Hardly anyone is free to choose a career based on his or her natural talents or interest in a particular kind of work."
WORD:537           TIME:00:45:00       DATE:2006-7-28

According to this statement, economy, salary and other pragmatic considerations are responsible for people’s choices on a career. In other words, only few people could make decisions on a career based on their talents or interest. In my opinion, whether one has advantage over the other depends on the specific circumstances.

To begin with, the mainstream is that many people think a lot of economy, the relative ease of finding a job and salary. Living expenses are higher and higher in modern society, which force people to get high-salary jobs and have much more practical thoughts. And in an over-populated world, to get a well-paid and satisfied job is not easy. Pressures that come from our work, our living cost, our society, and people all around us, beyond all doubt, give rise to practical considerations of a career. To some extent, it seems that few people care about interest and genuine thoughts, only fortune and social status.

In addition, television, magazines, newspapers, radio and other means of mass communication have an strong impact on our daily lives, especially on attitudes of careers. We absorb messages that success is equal to making much money from soap operas and movies into our subconscious. And propaganda for these ways will change our views which stick to our interests and talents into an oppositive side. A recent research conducted by FuDan University among 300 students from 15 cities in China, reflects that there is a high percentage of students want to be enterprisers, movie stars and other occupations that could earn a lot of money whether they have real interest in them. On the contrary, only few of them prefer to be scientists and artists who would earn less money. This research indicates that economy and other pragmatic considerations have an considerably obvious influence on our decisions on a career nowadays. Moreover, it is frequently assumed that if enterprisers and movie stars could not have much financial reward, the number of these students who want to choose these careers will be decline.

However, it is important not to take this assertion about interest and the career to far. There are also some people who like what they are dong about. For example, many undergraduates now leave their hometowns and go to northwest China, whereas northwest China is underdeveloped and poor compared with the littoral, and offer much lower income. But they work there just because of their interest and other reasons rather than economy and salary. Moreover, many volunteers work in community service and day care centers. They render aid, perform a service, or assume an obligation voluntarily without consideration of salary. Such as blood donor and hospital volunteers. It is believed that, beyond the mainstream, many people honor their interest and talents and do not give up them.

Consequently, due to analysis mentioned above, which sometimes intertwine to form an organic whole and thus become more persuasive than any one of them, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that either economy, the ease of getting a job, and salary, or interest and talents are factors that will exert an influence on people’s decisions on opting a job due to diverse ideas of different people.

According to this statement, economy, salary and other pragmatic considerations are responsible for people’s choices on a career. In other words, only few people could make decisions on a career based on their talents or interest. In my opinion( 以前我也喜欢用这个句型,后来新东方的老师说这是chinglish,比较地道的说法比如in my view,不知道准不准,可以考虑一下), whether one has advantage over the other depends on the specific circumstances.
To begin with, the mainstream is that many people think a lot of economy, the relative ease of finding a job and salary. Living expenses are higher and higher in modern society, which force people to get high-salary jobs and have much more practical thoughts. And in an over-populated world, to get a well-paid and satisfied(satisfying)  job is not easy. Pressures that come from our work, our living cost, our society, and people all around us, beyond all doubt, give rise to practical considerations of a career. To some extent, it seems that few people care about interest and genuine thoughts, only fortune and social status
In addition, television, magazines, newspapers, radio and other means of mass communication have an(a) strong impact on our daily lives, especially on attitudes of careers. This research indicates that economy and other pragmatic considerations have an(a) considerably obvious influence on our decisions on a career nowadays.

Consequently, due to analysis mentioned above, which sometimes intertwine to form an organic whole and thus become more persuasive than any one of them(这句感觉写得很好!), we may safely arrive at the conclusion that either economy, the ease of getting a job, and salary, or interest and talents are factors that will exert an influence on people’s decisions on opting a job due to diverse ideas of different people.
