提纲1,丑闻唤醒了大众对问题的关注
2,speaker实际上唤醒了大众对问题本质的了解
3,reformer 真正做了实事
From Watergate Hotel to Clinton's office in White House, from the field of science to Olympics, scandals emerge. The public respond actively to those scandals either harmful to the public or harmless private affairs, or both. Some make us reassure the process of how we elect, award and evaluate individuals, others satisfy our curiosity to personal issues. Many scandals promote the development of our society by direct us the ways to perfect our systems and eventually ensure the social stability. However, those who give public speaking in the plazas and those who struggle to make positive changes contribute more directly to our society.
As for the scandals, in most cases surprise the public. People can never imagine the presidents had cheated them until Nixon resigned from the White House or Bill confirmed he does have a romantic relationship with an intern. It does not matter if the scandals are private or not, the public’s surprising lead to their concern. For those scandals such as a Korean professor cheated the public and even the Science magazine or the Watergate affair, the consequences associated with the concern from the pubic are punishments, and more importantly, the thinking of the ongoing system. That is, why the public can be cheated and how to avoid similar scandals' happening? In this respect, the society is reassured and promised to develop. Nonetheless, for those private affairs that do not harm the social stability, the aroused concerns are generally too significant. Since everyone has the right to maintain certain private space, the public cannot criticize Bill's love attitude. In this regard, a personal scandal never contributes to the perfection of neither a society nor a system instead of offending the personal right of one civilian.
Furthermore, a scandal is based on the existed value system to decide the positive or negative traits of certain phenomena, however, speaker's words are not. Martin Luther King uncovered the problem of the segregation from black to white. He spread his value system that people should not been divided according to their colors to the mass listeners, most of whom did not aware that the segregation as a problem but regard it as natural. Dr King motivated the public to against the unjust laws to the segregation while many people believed ridiculous. However, both of the suggestions he promoted are just and promoted the progress of the development to certain degree. His speakings arouse and contribute to build a new and better value system in people's mind, which cannot be duplicated by any scandals, as people without awareness of the segregation as a wrongdoing cannot even regard it as a scandal.
Moreover, another major trait scandals differ from the reformers or speaker' actions is that scandals require the public to respond certain affairs but not control it. Therefore, a reformer or speaker is actually holding a positive position to make changes. J.F.Kennedy, promoted the new reform of civil right. When governor of Mississippi was stopping black students from enrolling to university, the then presidents sent national guards to ensure the enrollment of the students. However, not a single scandal can force the change of a wrong policy even if it arouse dramatic public concern since the public cannot be so insightful to the problem’s origin. The reformers and speakers are those who are doing something to make changes while the scandals are motivate people to change, of which the effects could be not significant.
In sum, the scandals do have their benefits since it discover the problems of the ongoing system or policies and present people a chance to deal with it though those personal affairs can do nothing but offend one's privacy. The speakers could actually focus the public concern to those problems, which were not regarded as inappropriate before. The speakers perfect the public's value system via their insightful understanding as well as their influence. Additionally, reformers are making positive changes to ensure a better society while the scandals can only present chances to do so. A better value system accompanies with the actions make a better society. |
