。 。so。 。

242The following appeared as an editorial in the student newspaper of Groveton College.

"To combat the recently reported dramatic rise in
cheating among college and university students, these institutions should adopt honor codes similar to Groveton's, which calls for students to agree not to cheat in their academic endeavors and to notify a faculty member if they suspect that others have cheated. Groveton's honor code replaced an old-fashioned system in which students were closely monitored by teachers and an average of thirty cases of cheating per year was reported. The honor code has proven far more successful: in the first year it was in place, students reported twenty-one cases of cheating; five years later, this figure had dropped to fourteen. Moreover, in a recent survey conducted by the Groveton honor council, a majority of students said that they would be less likely to cheat with an honor code in place than without."

而且,对这个survey的真实性还有待商榷,as 大家在调查中总是不自觉的表现的更理智些,but things will be different when there is an exam.

The argument is organized by offering statistics and a survey to prove that the application of honor codes and notifying suspects has do great moral good. It is may seems logical for an institution, who may adopt honor codes, to take the reduction of cheating cases reported and the conclusion of the survey all are the results of the six-year-old legacy.

However, the writer is failing to consider other alternatives that may lead to the decline of cheating cases other than the honor codes. Such alternatives may include that, first of all, in these six years, students’ morality may have improved due to, for instance, the wide use of “honesty record” to make students be aware of the consequences of cheating. Besides, as there appear hi-tech cheating affairs, I can also say that the decline of reported cheating can also be a result of the development of cheater’s facilities, which are far more advanced than ever ,enough to allow students to cheat without any difficulty as well as any chance to be noted by others. Even if these are only suggestions, the potential tendency of the statistics still needs to examine. The sliding of the data in the first year makes us believe that the honor codes did have great effects at the beginning. But years later, as in the recent five years it only shows a relatively low speed of decreasing of all, simply forgetting some fluctuations during this period that may occur, why can’t we doubt whether the number will drop in the future? It appears to be reasonable to believe that students can adjust to the policy as they gradually find that manipulation can be exerted. Reconsidering the data, we can also find that the author only offers the number of cases reported instead of the cheating rate when the number compare with the amount of students in Groveton. The students’ amount can also reduce during the six years, which a rocketing rate can be suggested to make the cheating rate climb rather than fall. All will lead to the down-going of the cheating cases reported, regardless of the application of honor codes.

Another doubt also arises when we focus on the survey which indicates that students who sign the honor codes are less likely to cheat. However, the survey’s point is on whether to sign will help rather than compare to the old-fashioned style that teacher monitored closely, which can obviously not be taken as a proof of the efficiency of honor codes, as the survey can not tell the differences between the old and the new. And moreover, the survey concludes that the majority of students show their determination to be honesty while the cheating cases reported are only about the minority of students. In this way, students who involve the survey may have never considered cheating from the very beginning. Furthermore, survey is done when students are not in the environment of a test, thus the result of which is somehow not reliable enough based on the ground that students, even every human, have the tendency to be perfect and cover their defects when interviewed. That is to say, students may say that they are less likely to cheat, but when they finally do their papers, concerning the grade of the course and the effects of it, such as the chances of scholarship, they inevitably take the less-likely side, to cheat, to get higher marks, and, to gain more for the substantial and spiritual. In sum, the survey is not a convincible reason for the institution to adopt the honor codes as it only supply facts that are limited relevant to the honor codes.

In shrinking, the reasons that stand behind honor codes are arranged by the writer who owns a preference before writing, and consequentially, reasons that seem logical are actually lack of further consideration for the reason that the writer is to sell the idea out. However, before settling down, the writer should gather more details of the cheating rates and take surveys that focus on the cheaters and the comparison of other methods.

Besides, as there appear hi-tech cheating affairs, I can also say that the decline of reported cheating can also be a result of the development of cheater’s facilities, which are far more advanced than ever ,enough to allow students to cheat without any difficulty as well as(感觉有点不好懂,觉得是于enough…连的)any chance to be noted by others. (这点挺实际的,嘿嘿)Even if these are only suggestions, (让步?)the potential tendency of the statistics still needs to examine. (觉得这点攻击的很好) Reconsidering the data, we can also find that the author only offers the number of cases reported instead of the cheating rate when the number compare with the amount of students in Groveton. The students’ amount can also reduce during the six years, which a rocketing rate can be suggested to make the cheating rate climb rather than fall. All (possibilities stated above? 感觉有点指代模糊) will lead to the down-going of the cheating cases reported, regardless of the application of honor codes.
In sum, the survey is not a convincible reason for the institution to adopt the honor codes as it only supply facts that are limited relevant to the honor codes.(好强的一段关于survey的分析,漂亮的连接词。
In shrinking(这个用法似乎比较少), the reasons that stand behind (全文用从句用得好多,是不是有的改为分词形式?) honor codes are arranged by the writer who owns a preference before writing, and consequentially, reasons that seem logical are actually lack of further consideration for the reason that (because)the writer is to sell the idea out. However, before settling down, the writer should gather more details of the cheating rates and take surveys that focus on the cheaters and the comparison of other methods (感觉有点不好懂)( as well as offer an comparison between honor codes and the teacher-monitoring style).

The argument is organized by offering statistics and a survey to prove that the application of honor codes and notifying suspects has do great moral good. do 之后应该跟个宾语吧。。 do sb./sth. good It is may seems logical for an institution, who may adopt honor codes, to take the reduction of cheating cases reported and the conclusion of the survey all are the results of the six-year-old legacy.

Besides, as   there appear   (it appears) hi-tech cheating affairs, I can also say that the decline of reported cheating can also be a result of the development of cheater’s facilities, which are far more advanced than ever  enough to allow students to cheat without any difficulty as well as any chance chances ,表机会时可数,表意外时不可数) to be noted by others. Even if these are only suggestions, the potential tendency of the statistics still needs to examine. (本句作为攻击点一的总结,结构很完整呢) The sliding of the data in the first year makes us believe that the honor codes did have great effects at the beginning. But years later, as in the recent five years it only shows a relatively low speed of decreasing of all, (个人觉得原文只列举了第六年的数据是多少,并没有告诉我们这期间几年的数据, speed 在此貌似不很合适) simply forgetting some fluctuations during this period that may occur, why can’t we doubt whether the number will drop in the future?

However, the survey’s point is on whether to sign will help rather than compare to the old-fashioned style that teacher monitored closely, which can obviously not be taken as a proof of the efficiency of honor codes, as the survey can not tell the differences between the old and the new. between the old rules and the new 。。) And moreover, the survey concludes that the majority of students show their determination to be honesty while the cheating cases reported are only about the minority of students. In this way, students who involve the survey may have never considered cheating from the very beginning. (此攻击点跟我想得一样,但是你比我表达得好多啦,学习 ing~ Furthermore, survey is done when students are not in the environment of a test, thus the result of which is somehow not reliable enough based on the ground that students, even every human, have the tendency to be perfect and cover their defects when interviewed. That is to say, students may say that they are less likely to cheat, but when they finally do their papers, concerning the grade of the course and the effects of it, such as the chances of scholarship, they inevitably take the less-likely side, to cheat, to get higher marks, and, to gain more for the substantial and spiritual 。。)
. In sum, the survey is not a convincible reason for the institution to adopt the honor codes as it only supply
supplies? facts that are limited relevant to the honor codes.

In shrinking (没见过亦没有查到这种表达,不知道正确否) , the reasons that stand behind honor codes are arranged by the writer who owns a preference before writing, and consequentially, reasons that seem logical are actually lack of further consideration for the reason that the writer is to sell the idea out. However, before settling down, the writer should gather more details of the cheating rates and take surveys that focus on the cheaters and the comparison of other methods.( 总结并给出自己的建议,学习 ing~)

3、
  Students

2、
  Cheating

The argument is organized by offering statistics and a survey toprove that the application of honor codes and notifying suspects has do great moral good(貌似不对). It is may seems logical for an institution, who may adopt honorcodes, to take the reduction of cheating cases reported and the conclusion ofthe survey all are the results of the six-year-old legacy.(很新颖,不过我估计暂时是写不来,俄。。)
